Happy Easter Folks.
I'm helping a friend with her tree and we're looking for the forebears of her grandfather, Harold Whiteford (or Whitford) ARTHUR b 1896 St Peters NSW, d Sydney 11/12/1974.
Parents: William Henry Arthur d Sydney 1961? & Eliza Ann X. My money is on Eliza Ann RICHARDS 1861-1915 m. Sydney 1886 but there is also an Eliza A LUKE m 1885 :-\
Sibs: Richard Clinton Arthur 1891-1917 m Stella M. Toope; Gracie Arthur 1887-1961 m Frank Noble 1910.
Married: Amy Olive BETHEL 1899-1966, par: Arthur John BETHEL & Caroline DUNMAN
I've found a possible death of William Henry in Sydney 1961 but nothing more on the Arthur line.
Any help or leads appreciated.
Cheers, Jane

Hi Jane,
Richard's service record gives his home address, and from that William Henry and Eliza's funeral notices can be found. Lots of family connections there:

Eliza's parents on her death reg seem to indicate that she was Eliza RICHARDS, but one of her children's birth certs would be the only reliable way of knowing.

Well, those notices certainly give a nice list of family connections, don't they? ;D

His parents were listed on his death entry NSWBDM.
Am wondering why Frederick wasn't mentioned in the death notice.

Time to stop as I'm :o
I have been searching for who would have been married to the E A Hunt and all I can come up with is:
282/1900 Ebenezer A married to a Jane C Arthur.

From the NSW State Records it looks like James 26 yo and Margaret 25 yo arrived Sydney on the Nimroud 12 Oct 1856 ex London. Their infant son James died at sea :'(
Now to try and find them in England.
Jane
-
Hi Jane,
You might not find them in England, James was a slater from Linlithgow in Scotland, but no birth details for Margaret or baby James (died 25 September 1856).
Debra :)
-
Thanks Debra.
Where did you find that? I'm off to the Scotland board now :D

Think I may have found the deaths and burials of James and Margaret.
There are folk by these names buried in the same grave at Rookwood. Anglican: AAAA 539
It fits with deaths on NSWBDM: James at Newtown 1919 and Margaret at Marrickville 1910. Margaret's parents being William and Mary, which sit well with the Scottish naming pattern of children.
Jamjar
-
Interesting: Ebenezer Hunt AAAA 540, Jane C AAAA 540 and in James and Margaret Arthur in AAAA 539
So, I am rather certain that our Mrs Hunt mentioned in the burial notice is this Jane.
Jamjar
-
Great, thanks Jamjar.
I was considering those two as likely suspects for James and Margaret in the NSWBMD as they fit with the locations of some of their children.

There's a Clarence E in Anglican Granite Lawn 2 14-9-81

I have photos of the headstones for: James and Margaret Arthur and Ebenezer and Jane Hunt; Clarence E Arthur.
If you'd like to PM me an email address I can send them, or I'm happy to post all of them here.

Awesome Jamjar. I'll PM you :-*

Hi Jamjar
Your post quotes Margaret's parents as William & Mary - is that from the headstone or cemetery records? The NSWBMD for Margaret Arthur 1910/10004 Marrickville, lists her parents as Henry and Mary? If there's a discrepancy I guess we'll just have to check the death certificate.

Jane, I would like to get in touch with your friend. Harold's father William Henry Arthur, eldest son of James Arthur of Hunter St, Sydney did marry Eliza Ann Richards on 20 January 1886 at St James, Sydney. Eliza (Lizzie) was the eldest daughter of T. E. Richards who I believe is a photographer of Sydney I am researching. Cheers! Marcel, Brisbane (msafier at ozemail.com.au)

Hi Marcel
Welcome to RootsChat.
I'll contact my friend and let her know of your interest. Meanwhile you should not post your email address. Once you have made three posts I will be able to contact you by private message.
Cheers, Jane

Hmm. I've discovered an 1859 NSW marriage for James Arther and Margaret Clinton which would negate the Scottish connection and would be inconsistent with the birth dates of some of the children. But Clinton works with the daughter Jane's middle name.
Looks like two couples, both James and Margaret Arthur/Arther. But which one ??? Looks like my friend may have to invest in a few certificates to be certain.
Jane
-
Yes, Jane, it does say Henry and Mary.
It explains the Henry in William Henry Arthur.
If you are going to get a cert I'd go with a transcript of Margaret's death cert.
You can't post email addresses on this site, Jane.
