Hi, Can anyone tell me how I can find the name of the occupants of the following address: "Haywood", Ladbroke Road, Redhill, Surrey, in 1947. I think it is my great uncle, who was a headmaster of an elementary school, I believe. The surname should be Whitney (This person died in 1951). This address was given by his son, who was on a passenger shipping list, listed as an engineer, and travelling from Lagos, Nigeria.
Do Kelly's directories go up to that date?
Appreciate any help,
Diana

Hi Diana
Simplest would be to get a copy of his death certificate as he may not have moved before he dies.
Plan B - look up the Electoral Rolls which you may find at local Library or record office.
Plan C - check telephone listings whcih are avaialbe on Ancestry for example.

Hi Bryan, I have sent for his death certificate and he died in Goudhurst, Kent, so he did move before he died. I live in Lincolnshire, so do not have ccess to the local library, but I will have a look on Ancestry and see if I can find anything on there.
Thanks, Diana

You could email the Surrey record centre.
http://www.ancestor-search.info/CRO-Surrey.htm
Or the Redhill library http://www.surreycc.gov.uk/sccwebsite/sccwspages.nsf/LookupWebPagesByTITLE_RTF/Redhill+library?opendocument
To see if either can help.
The worst they can say is no ;)
