I sent off nice emails to the Libraries requesting info and have heard nothing back. :( Six people to lookup death notices for please.
Buried in Napier
Thomas Cholmondeley Sanderson 19/6/1948
Mabel Lea Sanderson 14/7/1964
Beryl Louie Mason 6/1/1981
John Mason 9/7/1975
Buried in Hastings
George Cholmondelay Sanderson 27/10/1993
Jamesena Lynn Sanderson 20/9/1998
The younger 4 have joint headstones that only mention each other and the email from the council about the seniors made no mention of inscription.

Hi KiwiHugh
Sorry to hear that you haven't (yet) had a response (it was me who'd suggested you contact Napier Library re: your SANDERSON family enquiry - in early April).
It does need to be remembered though, that Library staff have other duties and often family history related enquiries will be handed over to volunteers to deal with, and as such, some patience is required - especially if the request is complex or time-consuming. ;)
I hadn't been aware of this earlier, but I now see that it is Hastings Library who have the main genealogy holdings for Hawke's Bay - and this is where the newspaper microflims are kept. (As you've said you "emailed the libraries" - I guess that means you've already contacted Hastings ? ).
If not, try this. :)

ooh ... also on that Hastings Library link, you'll find the NZSG contact. If all else fails, then you could try them. They have a look-up service via "snail mail" (and ask for a donation).

[PS ... there's the National Library (Alexander Turnbull Library) too - "Ask a Librarian" service, accessed via link on PapersPast website. ]

Ooops see you have that!

"Less people doing more" sounds great when the pollys trot it out but workers can only do so much in a working day. I will let the libraries know they are "off the hook" if a chatter comes to my rescue faster than they can and vice versa :D

Do give the Funeral Directors an email,I have received good info from the Napier companies
Cheers Janette

Hi Hugh,
I emailed the Napier Library a couple of weeks ago and they responded back three days later.
Could it be they did respond and it went straight to SPAM?
Cheers

No I have not tried the FDs. I did not think they could release info about their customers (the living ones). Only tried the MacDonalds in Invercargill as they were related to the deceased and hence by marriage related to me, all beit distantly. Will wait till after Easter and try again so it doesnt get burried in a line of Easter mail build up. My SPAM, I risk checking out headers before I delete

Hi KiwiHugh,
This is a website for Hastings District cemetery recprds and you will find information and a photo of George and Jamesena's headstone: http://www.hdc.govt.nz/cem/cemetery_home.html
You can also access this through the Hastings Library website.
Good luck,
