Looking for birth/residence details for Patience Johanna White prior to 1841. Got as far back as 1841 census where she was residing in Exeter/St. Sidwell Parish about age 20. Census translation (that I saw) had incorrectly spelled name Patrina.
Patience married William Allen in 1845 and then moved to London. I have found no local Devon information about William Allen other than born around 1821 as well in Exeter.
New at this detective work and not sure how to go back before the 1841 census.
Thanks for your help.

Siblings for Johanna. All St Sidwell, Exeter. (pilot family search)
Frederick William White 1814 died 1814
Elizabeth Gattey White 1823
Harriet Gattey White 1826 died 1827
Joanna White 1820 died 1820
Frederick William David Gattey White 1828 died 1830
Harriet Gattey White 1833
As the name Gattey keeps appearing, strong chance that that was Patience's maiden name.
This could be her.
Patience Gattey

Baptism/Christening Place Saint Sidwell, Exeter Devon
Father's Name David Gattey
Can not see Patience & Fredericks marriage yet.

Sharon01,
This is fantastic - thank you so much. ;D
As I said I'm new at this detective work. Should I have been able to find this information? Can you share/help me understand the sources? I live outside the UK so everything I do has to be online or by snail mail!

To accurately confirm the fathers' names & occupations of your couple, you need to obtain a copy of their marriage certificate. This can be done via the General Register Office at https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/default.asp
The marriage registration was in the Sept qtr 1845, Exeter district vol 10 page 182.

Patience Johanna White also had another sibling, Mary Gattey White (my maternal 3 X Great Grandmother), who was born at Falmouth/Truro, Cornwall c. 1817 (as opposed to St. Sidwell, Exeter for all the other children). Mary G White married John Bale Keen (a ropemaker) in Exeter in 1940 (Patience Johanna White was a witness on the marriage cert.). The couple are recorded living together in St. Sidwell, Exeter with Mary's siblings, Patience J White, Elizabeth G White & Harriett G White in the 1841 census. The girls parents, Frederick White & Patience White (nee Gattey) had both died by the time of the census, Patience in 1839 from tuberculosis, and Frederick in 1840 (cause of death "found drowned"). Frederick' occupation variously recorded as a Beadle, a Waiter and a Messenger to the Committee for the Improvement of the City of Exeter.
