Post by: diveboy on Friday 22 April 11 01:33 BST (UK)
Hi all,

after some assistance in finding out where Amelia Neander was born, immigrated from....

The details I have are

Amelia Neander married Thomas Hunter Reg 1862 #4159
She died 1886 in Stratford, Victoria Reg 1886 #3827

They had the following children

Amelia 1864
John Charles 1865
William Henry 1867
Louisa May 1869
Thomas Edward 1871
Elizabeth 1873
Alice 1876

According to her death certificate, she was 44 (puts her birth year at 1842) and her parents were Thomas & Elizth Neander.

Thanks in advance for any assistance offered.

Where Amelia came from.

I haven't found her entry into Australia or her birth, I have looked in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania. Doesn't mean to say that I missed  her, but so far the earliest record I have of her is her marriage.

thanks

PROV has  digitised Administration papers for a Louis NEANDER, cabinet maker,  d 24 August, 1857, resident of Portland. Louis's widow is Susan NEANDER and his children listed as: Alfred Louis, George Henry and Louis.  (I hope this is correct - whoever the solicitor's clerk was he should have worked harder in handwriting lessons.)

As part of the Administration process there is a paper signed 16 August, 1858, by a Gotlieb NEANDER, licenced victualler of Portland, Victoria.  He states he has been living in Portland for the last six months.  I could not see a reference to the relationship between Gotlieb and Louis but thought you might find this of interest.

Perhaps this is 'Lomis', Amelia's brother?

Some thoughts....

Looking at the geographic locations of this branch of NEANDER's with AMELIA right there toowith them, I think we have to conclude there was a family relationship.

Tying them clearly to the SA family is difficult ::) and tying AMELIA precisely is also difficult ???

Who was the informant on AMELIA's death certificate?

You would think with that many of the NEANDER family around, it would be hard for there to be a mistake in the parentage listing.

There are a number of NEANDER burials at SALE Cemetery.

Of interest...... and adding to ALISON's information

NEANDER  Ann.(nee WERNICKE) Aged 63 years buried 16/ 1/ 1868. Born Germany.Location not given.

This would be HANNAH, GOTTLEIB's wife.
