Hi,
I wonder if anyone can do a newspaper look up request for me, or tell me if there are any online newspapers i can look at.
I'm looking for an inquest into the death of Alexander Stevenson who died on 13 November 1901
I have a copy of his death certificate and it states there was an inquest to be held on 14 November 1901.
MOD-sorry if i've posted in the wrong place.
Cheers,
Marie

Hi
The Dorset History Centre in Dorchester holds copies of local newspapers on microfiche (I think) and might also have a record of the Inquest.
If you contact them with details of date and place of the Inquest they should be able to advise you.

Thank you Nanny Jan,
Will contact them but are the newspapers available online?

Hi,
As far as I know they are not. Have you searched the area via Google?
If it was a major news story it might have made the national papers; The Times has an online archive but I think it might be pay-per-view.

Hi,
Are you aware that in 1901 parts of Dorset (Bournemouth/Christchurch area) were in Hampshire; boundary changes happened several decades later.

Hi again Nanny Jan,
As i'm Scottish, please forgive if i don't get the right area, but i know
the boundaries were changed some time ago that's why i apologised and
said i hope i posted in the right place.
Will google as you suggested and see what i can find.
Thanks again for your help

Hi Marie and Jan,
I've just checked 'The Times' digital archive and as far as I can see there isn't anything there. It isn't pay-per-view if you are a member of the Library and Information services.

Bournemouth Library have the relevant local newspapers on microfilm, as you have the date of the inquest it should be a simple job for them to do a look up for you.

I am unable to get there at the moment, otherwise I would have done it for you.
