I am looking for Information on Mary Ann Wagner
She married Charles Alfred Bryant in 1890 in NZ had a child, Mary Ann Margaret and died that same year.
No record of a Birth certificate so she was probably an immigrant.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

Hi Sally
Oh, how sad ... she was just 17 years old. :'(
Obviously her marriage record would be the best source of information, but as she was a minor when she wed, the Intention to Marry notice may give you some clues.
You can request a look-up of the notice (ITM) [please see the notes in the Resources section of this board, on how to proceed with this.]
The ITM would tell "how long she had been resident in the district in which she was to marry" ... and hopefully give the name of the person giving her permission to marry.

Hi Sally
There was an inquest held into Mary Ann's death - at Lyttelton - the outcome of which was that she died of "natural causes".
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/
"Star" - 8 September 1890 - Accidents and Fatalities
The newspaper report is not very detailed, but Archives New Zealand possibly hold a copy of the Coroner's report.

Re: Coroner's Inquest report :
These files are held (on microfilm) at Archives NZ - Wellington office. Again, you can make a request for a look-up on the NZ Board. [The report may or may not contain helpful personal information about the deceased.]
-
This looks like the death of Charles and if so they were both so young :( :(

Hi Sally
Have found a "possible" arrival ?
WAGNER - Mary - aged 2 years (bc 1876)
[I wouldn't be too worried about the year of birth - often they can be a year or two astray. ]
Assisted Immigrants to Canterbury :
Per the "Wanganui" - arrived Canterbury (Lyttelton) 28 February 1878 :
WAGNER - John - 35
WAGNER - Marguerite - 34
WAGNER - Mary - 2
WAGNER - Hanoria - 4 months
From : Kerry (Ireland)

Wicked!
If these names match the wedding cert. parents then I will have all the arrivals for this branch of the family.
I was expecting them to be German a bit closer than it seems.

That would make her Pregnant and at 14. Not unusual I know, but what hard lives they had!
-
Hi Sally
Yes, I too thought German, at first ... but then the "Mary Ann Margaret" got me thinking "Irish". :D
So hopefully this family arriving in Canterbury (1878) is yours. ;)
* Any idea of who raised this poor motherless child ... or where she lived during her childhood. ?

Charles re married the following year, she had a step mother and 3 further siblings.
Life continued to be hard for her. Going into service at 14. A marriage with violence. Having her children removed.

Any hints where to look for that?

Hey Sally, I stumbled on your conversation here tonight as I was researching Charles Albert Bryant, whose parents came on the Randolph. I'm trying to trace all the Bryant descendants, so your Mary Ann Margaret Ford is of interest to me as well! Did you know there's an article in Papers Past "Charged with abduction" 23 January 1907. She was only 16 then. Please let me know if you find her family - although I see it could be difficult. But I was pleased to read that you found a lead, and have identified Clarence.

Hi Mardi,
It's been a few years since I've been on here. My husband and daughter are Bryant descendants.
