After the 1851 and 1861 census entries for the family of Sarah Ellen Myers. She was born in Fordon in about 1848 and I am hopeful she was still in the area in 1851 and 1861.
Cheers

This is Sarah & Family in 1851; looks like they may have been ag. labs judging by the early moves at the start of the family.

There are many Myers relations in Humanby. I see that many of the Myers brothers were blacksmiths. I have found Sarah Ellen's uncles if you want them in 1861.

Thanks very much. This is great stuff. I certainly would be interested in Sarah Ellens uncles.
Its interesting that John is married in 1861 but there is no trace of his wife, Ann.
Its also not obvious who Sarah Ellens parents are on the 1851 census so thats something for me to research further (based on an IGI entry for a Sarah Ellen christening in Hunmanby in 1848, her mother may be Ruth with no father - not sure of Ruths fate).
Do you or anyone have access to 1841 as well for John and Ann Myers family?
Cheers

I had another look for Ann but no sign in this Census. Maybe she is back at Cropton which is not on this census. By the way Humanby should be Hunmanby!

Again, Thanks
Thats tremendous
I'll do a bit of hunting regarding Ruth as there is no obvious death record on the index for her after Sarah ellens birth and before 1851. I'm quite certain that she is Sarah Ellens mother as I have also found the matching IGI christening records linking Ruth to the aunts and uncles of Sarah Ellen.
I will have a look on 1837 online for any death records that were not indexed correctly.
I know that Ruth was christened in Hunmanby on 14 Aug 1831
If she is still alive at this point, and is not on the 1851 census for this area, I need to spread the net a little further.
As for 1841, I may open another topic for others to view.
Thanks for all your help

Okay; Ruth is not on the 1851 census=there is a Ruth but she is 16 and born in Rillington living at Old Malton, daughter of Edward.
I have found the aunts & uncles of Sarah etc in Foxholes in 1851, and also all the Myers groups who are in Hunmanby.
There was quite a collection there. I take it that you do not know the maiden name of Ruth or is that her surname anyway?

I believe that Myers is her surname and she was an unmarried mother when Sarah Ellen was born/christened. Whether she married shortly after, or indeed died, I don't know. Equally she could have left the area entirely.
Its one of those where there are several scenarios and may only be proven by some kind of National index search. I could find no deaths for Ruth on 1837 online and so far, in indexes, have found no obvious marriage, thus forcing a name change by 1851.
In an ideal world, I'd do a national search on the 1851 census for all women with the name Ruth aged 19-21 and born in Fordon/Hunmanby.
I can but dream!
