Thanks for the links to previous threads.
Progress so far -  Copy of William's will from 1939 and GMC record indicating that his son (above) was in Carnlough in 1959.
Now trying to ascertain if son had any family.
Any help appreciated.

William Brennans son did become a doctor, a surgeon apparently but later became a GP in Carnlough.  He and his wife didnt have any children.  He was acquainted with my grandmother who having split up with her husband before the birth of her second child, subsequently gave birth to a daughter but died 4 weeks later (of afterbirth complications).  Dr Brennan and his wife wanted to adopt my mother...but only her, not her 3 year old sister and their aunt refused.  He practised medicine until the late 1970's and remained in Carnlough until his death.

Thanks for this. I thought the file for my relative was closed. Very interesting new information.
What was your mother's maiden name? Would there be any photos of William around now?
Do you know of any living relatives at all?
We hope to visit Carnlough in the near future to visit his grave.
Kind regards.
Mike Brennan

I wish I could help more but I know of no other living relative. As for finding photos, I can only suggest asking at the Londonderry Arms Hotel which he may have frequented, perhaps there may be photos of functions held there or contacting the Larne Times the local newspaper which would have photographed
such events.  My mothers maiden name is Doyle. Good luck. J Magill

There is a short account of Dr. Liam Brennan's life in a local history on Carnlough that was published in 1996 as "Glencloy, a Local History including Carnlough", ed. Felix McKillop.  I attach a typed version of this, as the scanned version was too large for an attachemnet with this system.
Regards

Many thanks for this. He really seems to have been a good guy. All we need now is to obtain some photos of William.
Thanks again.

Just came across this site and information requested about Dr Liam Brennan.... he was my mothers first cousin. He was indeed a lovely kind man.

Yes, he certainly was. We have visited his grave and spoken to people in Carnlough who remember him with love and respect.
We even got photos from his school and university - all good.
Could you please give me more detail about your connection to him?
He was my late father's first cousin .

My mother was Mary Conboy, her father Tom, and Liam's mother were siblings. My mother spent a couple of years of her childhood living with the family, so Liam and herself were like brother and sister, very close. I also spent some holidays in carnlough as a child. I didn't see him so much when he married for the second time but my mother remained in close contact. Obviously after he died we lost contact with his wife, and that's where he story ends. She has since passed away o know, but has family in Northern Ireland.
My mother has also passed away but I have an aunt and I'm really not sure about any other relatives. Liam and Pat ( his first wife) never had any children.
It's lovely to see how highly he was thought of as I already knew anyway. My mother loved him.
Where is his grave? I've never been.

This is very interesting. Was Austin Conboy a brother of Tom Conboy?
I ask because Liam's second name was Austin presumably named after Austin Conboy who was William Brennan's best man. He was also in R I C.
Are there any photos of William and Mary and/or Liam and Pat?
Liam is buried in the cemetery attached to Mary Queen of Peace church in Glenravel rd. Martinstown, Ballymena.
The grave is shared with Patricia and her parents. Until relatively recently a man from Carnlough used to come to clean the headstone as a mark of respect.

Yes, that would be very helpful. As you see from previous threads, I have been on this search for some time.
If your aunt is a Conboy, she may know about William Brennan's brothers.
My grandfather was a brother of his.
We have been unable to find anything about another brother Thomas Brennan who was in the R I C about the same time as Austin Conboy.
Enjoy your visit.
