I have a letter dated 1843 written in French and would be extremely grateful if someone could translate it for me. The images won't go through together so I will have to post in two separate posts.

Pages 2 & 3 of letter.

I've translated the first page, but when I tried to post it, it didn't go through. The site must be too busy. I'll try posting it again later. In the meantime I'll have a go at the rest of the letter. It's to the writer's father, about his study at the Pasteur - probably a college - and what he wants to do when he leaves.

Pasteur Institute? Just for interest - started long after letter was written

Could this writer have been working with Louis Pasteur??
Wiggy :)

No, I got that bit wrong, as I realised when I got further - the teacher was called Pasteur(Pastor) Schmoller. I've now translated the whole thing, and will post it in smaller chunks so that it goes through ok.
Hafnerhaslaik 10 August 1843
O/A Brackenheim
My dear father,
Not knowing when your birthday is I'm sending you this ruin, which I have drawn myself, as a present, you will be very surprised to see how my drawing has improved. I tell you, my dear father that I am now applying myself to everything, because I love you and I want at the same time for you to be as pleased as the Pastor that I am applying myself like this. Next year I want to go to Flomhonsheim to study agriculture which I like very much. When I'm there I will apply myself even more so that I will come out in 2 years and get a large farm which you will probably buy for me, I think.

Letter, Part 2 -
I still haven't received any letters from Anna, I would really like to know if they are well and happy. Dear father in 6 weeks we will have our holidays from the Pastor which will last for 4 weeks, the two other boys here are going to stay with their families and I would like to ask your permission to go and see you as well for two or three weeks holiday, because it will soon be 5 years since I last saw you. O my dear good father, allow me this, don't refuse me this request, you have also allowed Anna to go on a journey and she came to see me. You must know, my dear father, that I am big enough and old enough to travel by myself. I know the way and also the shortest and easiest way, and that ... with pleasure on arrival at Loucher to throw myself into your arms, you will find me very changed now my dear father, please be kind enough to reply and to give me this permission.

Letter, Part 3 -
Not knowing yet what you will write, my dear good father, I will leave you in wishing you a very happy holiday and also a good and happy health which I pray every morning and evening the good God will give you.
Goodbye dear good father, keep well always. Your son who embraces you with all his heart, who loves you and will always love you.
Charles
P.S. Mr and Mrs Schmoller have asked me to give you their compliments and Pastor Schmoller has asked me to tell you that the term started a month ago and to ask you not to forget to send us our money for the term.
Goodbye

Do you know who Charles and his father were? It would be interesting to know more about them.
