Hi Rosie ive checked the link but no joy thanks anyway ;),i did see the marriage to Ellen Slingo as well as possible others my Gramp told me Thomas although born in headington his parents and him lived in horton cum studley? so his parents may of married at Thame or Wheatley maybe im not sure if horton cum studley is near these 2 places? also Thomas was from Romany stock and although Hall is an old Romany surname i m assuming his mother would of also possibly of been from a Traveller family so was expecting her to have a traveller surname i.e Smith,Buckland etc (hope that makes sense!)looks like this is going to be a bit harder to sort out then i thought!! kindest regards

Hi Daisy ...
The parish of Horton-cum-Studley falls within the registration district of Headington. If Thomas was born and/or married in HcS then this would be registered in Headington.
The following family appears on the 1911 census (residing in Headington registration district):
Thomas Knight HALL (born c1880)
Ellen HALL (born c1874)
Thomas Henry HALL (born c1909)
The marriage that Rosie has found for you looks very likely to be Thomas's parents. Purchasing his birth certificate would confirm this.
Ellen is on the 1901 census with her mother and brother, as follows:
Holy Trinity, Headington
Jane SLINGO - widowed - Laundress
William SLINGO - single (blind)
Ellen HALL - married - Laundress (born Liddington, Oxon.)
Husband Thomas is not with them, so may have been away from home working. There is no Thomas Knight HALL recorded on the 1901 census, and too many Thomas HALLs to decide which is the correct one without knowing his place of birth.

Having a quick look at this, I believe that Thomas Knight Hall was born at Headington Quarry. There is a Thos Hall shown on the 1901 census born Headington Quarry aged 22, living in Kent as "Stoker 2nd Class" - married.
RG13 Piece 740 Folio 101 Page 2 refers.
edit:
From the OFHS Headington Quarry Holy Trinity PR transcript, baptism:
31 August 1879 Thomas Knight HALL son of William & Elizabeth

1881 Ellen is with her Father WILLIAM, Mason born c 1832, Tiddington, Oxford and Mother JANE born c 1833, Horspath, Oxford;
Plus siblings;
Elizabeth 1869
William 1870
+ they have a Grandson Joseph Harris age 5 living there.
1891 she is still at home and William is still alive aged 58.
1871 is interesting and although I cant fin a Marriage that fits it looks like Jane was nee Harris;
William SLINGO, 39
Jane, 39
Ann HARRIS, 12, Daug in Law
Louisa Harris, 9, Daug in Law
Elizabeth SLINGO, 3, Daug
William Slingo, 2, Son
Jane E Slingo, 69, Mother
RG10/1432/144/6
1851 William is with his Parents WILLIAM born c 1796, Wheatley, Oxford a Stone Mason and JANE born c 1802 Siddington a School Mistress. They are under Slinger.

Quote from Harry;
31 August 1879 Thomas Knight HALL son of William & Elizabeth
Now in 1881 Census thomas is with Parents WILLIAM born c 1841, Holton and HARRIET born c 1843 Holton.
Looking for a Marriage we have a possible on FreeBMD;
William HALL
Harriett KNIGHT, Sept 1867, Headington, 3a 855
So not sure why Christening has Mother as Elizabeth?
Or do I have the wrong Marriage?? and Census??
Also on the 1881 Census are Children;
AMY 1867, Holton
WILLIAM 1870, Wheatley
GEORGE 1872, Shotover
JESSE 1874, Forrest Hil
ELIZABETH, 1876, Headington Quarry
THOMAS, 1879, Headington Quarry##
RG11/1496/57/40
Is it possible to check any of these please Harry :)
1871 Census I think William is Eli W born c 1870, Amy may be An born c 1868 but there is also a Jane born c 1865.
This seems to be the only matching 1871 Census;
RG10/1433/25/42

Just checked the baptism again - confirmed that the parents are William and Elizabeth. I guess there is a possibility of a mis-transcription or the vicar had brain fade.
Looking at other baptisms:
25 Feb 1877 - Elizabeth daughter of William and Harriet
8 Mar 1883 - John son of William and Harriet
and from Forest Hill (on the same CD):
28 Sep 1873 - George son of William and Harriett
I think I may have the Wheatley CD - I'll check and post again if I do.

Some more baptisms courtesy of OFHS transcription CD:
Holton:
10 Nov 1867 - Amy Sarah HALL daughter of William and Harriet - Wheatley
Wheatley:

Holton
9 Sep 1867
William HALL, b, lab, 23 son of John
Harriett KNIGHT, spin, 22, daughter of Thos
Witnesses: Jane WASHINGTON, Jesse HALL (signs "X")

Just to round off this for now:
Burial:
Headington Quarry Holy Trinity:
11 Jun 1924 - Thomas Knight HALL - aged 44, St Mary's Road
BTW
There are a number of baptisms that link to this family into the 20th century if required.

Hi thanks so much Pennie,Trish and Harry for all that info wow!! Ive just got back from work and checked emails so sorry for not replying sooner,i guess that Thomas Knight Hall was the father and that he did marry into the Sligo or Slinger family after all then,still cant work out the Romany connection i expect itll remain a mystery ???maybe it is just the Hall side that were as i have pics of Thomas (tomma) and he was always dressed in the Romany way and my Gramp says he was well known up as far away as High Wycombe by most of the Romany families there even before the m40 was built he used to travell up there poaching!ill have to jot all this down to show me Gramp,if its o.k Harry id love to see the 20th century baptisms when you have time my Gramp thinks that the Halls married into the Headington Webbs at some point?thanks again all of you for all your time and hard work its really appreciated
kindest regards
Daisy
