Title: Martin family of Wardy Hill, Cambridgshire
Post by: Hunnyb22 on Monday 18 April 11 11:19 BST (UK)
I've managed to trace my paternal family back to James Martin (1694-1749) but would like to know who his parents were. Apart from the LDS records, is there any way I can look for records further than the late 1600s? The Martin family were all farmers so they could have moved around to find work? They settled in Wardy Hill, Coveney and stayed there until my grandfather Joseph Martin (1867-1933) left around 1894.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. ;D..Sorry I haven't replied early, have been very busy.

Yes, I have heard of Andrew Martin, his 2xgr grandmother Elizabeth Martin (b.1811) and my great grandfather Charles Martin (1825-1899) were siblings. However, his records only go as far back as James Martin (1694-1749).

My brother and sister went to Wardy Hill and Coveney yesterday (27 August) looking for the graves of the Martin family but couldn't find them, could they have been buried in Ely Holy Trinity or elsewhere?  ???

Kind regards

The Burial Index on the Cambs FHS site at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html shows eleven Martin burials in Coveney St Peter ad Vincula in the period 1801-37 alone. It's quite possible that there are no gravestones - a fiche of Coveney MIs is available from Cambs FHS, cost £1-50 inc UK postage
