Title: Doddino's balckpool
Post by: rachelralph on Sunday 17 April 11 11:52 BST (UK)
i have just been given some information about a family member who owned and ran a cafe on blackpool prominade. it was oppiste the north pier and centopath was called DODDINO'S. it was ran by a gntleman called richard dodds (Denigan) and his wife margaret. it would have been in the 1950/60's we think. my cousin remembers working there in the summer holidays one year and she was born 1946.

they also owned another cafe on the prominade which we dont know the name of and it was ran by richards sister mary ann franklin (denigan).

i would love to know if anyone remembers this place or even better has any memory of the people who ran it.

Hi
I am the grandchild of Richard Denigan, living in New Zealand. We hardly knew anything about our grandfather when we grew up, as my mother said very little about him. He died in the UK when my mother was 18.
My mother did talk of the Dodino's cafe at the end of Blackpool Pier.

This is indeed a mystery, as we would love to know more about Richard. I do believe there may be another second cousin of ours living somewhere in New Zealand, it would be great to meet up if they are happy to do so.
Thanks.

Just to add to the above post, mum knew her father as Richard Dodds, not Denigan. The reason for the name change would be interesting to know.

Hello NZkiwi1 and welcome to RootsChat.

rachelralph has not been active here since March 2017, but hopefully she will receive email notification of your post.

I don't know why the name change, however I notice that on FreeBMD there are multiple entries for Richard and Margaret's marriage with surnames:
Richard T DENIGAN and spouse surname WATSON or DODDS
Margaret F B DODDS and spouse surname DENIGAN or DODDS
(Dec quarter 1947 Southampton 6b/1347)

The marriage certificate should provide some answers.  :)

I am assuming this is his birth - Richard Thomas DENIGAN Sept quarter Edmonton (3a/605) mother's maiden name REVELL.

And death: Richard DODDS Dec qtr 1962 aged 53 at Blackpool (10b/548)

Modified to add: Richard DENIGAN married Amy Ann REVELL registered at St Olave (1d/309) Jun qtr 1902.
You can see the family in the 1911 census at Battersea

If you make one more post here I can send you a personal message. I have a theory (which may be completely wrong  :P) as to the name change.

Richard’s probate record shows as ‘Denigan or Dodds’ here. Probate was granted in 1964 so you need to search using that year, rather than year of death.

My mum worked at Doddino's and I have a photograph with staff that may have been taken when she worked there. I cannot manage to see the name of the premises and have tried to confirm it with my cousin but have been unsuccessful.
