Hi lstieglitz,
Pardon my ignorance but what does EICS stand for?
Billy.

Possibly EICS= East India Company's Service (East India Company)?

If you could explain exactly what sort of information you are looking for it might be easier to help you by finding information or suggesting where to search next.

There must be some record of him receiving a knighthood

Sorry here my complete infos:
Hamilton, Sir Eduard * …(Schweiz um 1730), + … 1795 Kgl. Großbrit. Colonel in der East India Company,
x …
Gibson(e), Anne, * London … 1752, + … 1834
they have a daughter:
Hamilton, Hannah (Anne) Marie
* London 9.2.1772 + Moigny, Seine et Oise, 1.2.1829
X Cressier, Schweiz …
Comte d’Averton de Chevrainville, Charles Bon Victoire, * Milly 16.7.1762, + ebd. 10.9.1837, Kgl.Franz .Lt.
The problem is 1. that this Edward is till now not to find in the web-archives of the east-india-service. 2. this Edward is probably born in switzerland. Is he a son of an emigrant ? 3. The title Sir could belong to member of the peerage, or ?
Tx and sorry
