I am putting togther my family tree but have 'hit a wall' around 1800.
My ancesters were originally Polish and of the Jewish faith.
The last recorded record I have is of Nachman Mider who married Chaja in 1824.
They had 7 children, 3 of which definately emigrated to the UK and settled in Birmingham in the mid to late 1800's.
Nachman Mider was born in Kalisz, Poland and Chaja, his wife, her father was Shumel Hirszon. Chaja died in 1859.
There is a very large extended family that I have documented.
Any help would be appreciated.........

Have you tried www.cyndislist.com ?
Useful info there

Hello maltwoodclan,
Welcome to Rootschat.
You have presumably taken your Mider/Meider recoreds from the Jewish Records Indexing - Poland project.
It would probably be worthwhile obtaining the full records from the Polish State Archives. Such early records would be written in Polish and/or Hebrew and may reveal Nachman's father's names.
According to JRI-Poland, Chaja's surname may have been HIRSZOW, i.e. HIRSHOV. Her father had the double given name Hirsh-Shmuel.
Can you tell us the names of the seven children?

hi, Greetings from New Zealand. My mother was a Meider, her father was Harold, and if I've got it right; his father was Newman, his father was Nathan, and his was Nachmann. So I guess that makes us related. I'd ne interested to know if you have found out anything more, and i know mum would definitely be interested. Kevin

dear malwoodclan
Most interested, I am a great great grandaughter of Nachman who was born in Kalisz, and have been trying to research the family for a few years, have had some success, but there are still gaps, I do have many certificates and would like to be in contact with you
-
Esther,
Welcome to RC!
Do any of your certs reveal Nachman's parents's names?
Although not in any way related, I'd be interested to hear what else you have managed to discover.

I have just read that information about Nachman Meider or Mider and his descendants would be useful. I am his 5 times Grandaughter and I live in the U.K. My paternal grandmother's mother's maiden name was Meider, her father was Harris Meider brother of Nathan Meider. Their father was Nachman Meider. They are both buried in Witton Old Cementary in Birmingham. I have more information but will waite to see if there if a reply to this.
It was very good to hear from some people from the Meider or Mider clan.
-
Good to hear from another Meider, I am the great grandaughter of Nathan, the brother of Harris Meider, I also live in the U K, and have quite a bit of information
-
Hello another member of the Meider family. My Great Grandmother was Martha, daughter of Harris Meider who was married to Flora Bemstone, Martha married David Chesses and their children were all named after Flora and Nachman's children. Newman, Annie, Flora, Amelia, Soloman. Eva and then there were three more Morris Walter and Lenny.
Harris and Nathan had a brother Wolf who only lived for one day, born in Kalisz in 1825, my Grandmother's brother Walter was named after him. Walter died in the first World War just 3 weeks before it ended. After that my father was named Wolf in memory of his Uncle.
Would love to hear any information regarding the family.

Hello I have just read your message regarding the Meider family. I would very much like to see the photo you have of the Meider family. I am the 4th Great Grand daughter of Harris Meider who was Nathan's brother. I do not have any photos of the Meiders going so far back, not even my Great Grandmother, Martha, because she died at 49.
Do hope to hear from you.
Susan.

Hi Susan
If you send me your email address I'll send you an electronic copy of the pic.

Hello all you Meiders, are any of you related to Nathan Meider, who was the third of the three brothers who came to England in 1850, would be most interested to hear from you

Hi Esterm
This is how I fit in the Meider Tree:
1839 - Nathan Meider (Gt. Gt. Gt Grandfather)
1859 - Newman Meider (Gt. Gt Grandfather)
1895 - Henry James Meider (Gt. Grandfather)
1923 - Diana Pearl Meider (Grandmother)
1946 - Norman Andrew (Father)
1980 - Nina Andrew
-
My Grandparents were Newman and Kate Meider, Newman was the son of Harris Meider who lived in Birmingham in the late 1800's. My father was Solomon, his brothers and sisters were,
Beatrice
Sidney
Joseph
James Henry (Harry)
Rosie
Carrie
Joseph
Flora
Solomon
Maurice
They are all now dead, my father died some 20 years agao, and I think he was the last of them. There must be a large family of their descendants in the London Area of Leyton, where the family where living when Newman and Katie died. I must be one of the oldest members of the family left, and my brother who is also Newman, he is 88 years. It would be nice to hear if any of my relatives are still out there, apart from the three I have already been in contact with.
-
Hi Maud
you may have seen that Newman and Kate Meider where my Gt. Gt Grandparents, my father was named Norman which I understand came from the name Newman. Would be lovely to hear if you have any stories or photos of them. I have one photo of the Meider family taken about 1915 with them standing outside somewhere called 'Lombardi' which I am at the moment trying to find out where that could possibly have been and if it's still there! Would be very interested in you have any other photos of them as I only have the one, I'm presumining you've prob already got this pic but if not I am more than happy to send you a copy.
I live in Chelmsford so I'm not too far from where the Meiders moved to!
Take care
Nina

Me again ;D do you know what Katie Meiders maiden name was as that's a blank for me at the moment?

Kate's surname was Barnett. She was born in 1863 in Margate and died on June 15 1937.
Let me know if you want to see my tree!

Hi,
Interesting to read your e-mail, my father was Solomon Meider, the brother of Sydney Meider, he was my fathers oldest brother, I think Sydney was 10 years older than him, and my grandparents were Newman Meider and Kate Barnett, so that would make us about 2nd or 3rd cousins. I am also in touch with another Great grandaughter of Sydneys, a Pearl Meider, I suppose there must be a few of us out there, but many who don't seem to be interested in their ancestry.
Iwould love to see any pictures that you have, I too have a few too, so maybe we could swap. my e-mail address is : (*) so we could communicate easier that way, it's more private.

Hello to the Maltwood/Meider clan in Canada
My name is Pat, my mother was Annie Meider, daughter of Abraham, who was a son of Nathan, I realise you are on Harris`s side of the family, but I have had great difficulty tracing descendants of Nathan, The New Zealand contact I know, in fact have travelled there to meet up with them, Neuman was my Grandfathers brother, I heard from Susan that you had an amazing amount of information, and I would love to be in touch with you. I live in England.
I look forward to hearing from you.

I have traced my ancestors back to the marriage of Nachman and Chaja in 1824. They had 8 children of whom 6 survived according to records. Three of the males emigrated to Birmingham, UK in the mid 1800's (Harris/Hersz, Abraham, Nathan/Nasen).I have found a record of a Mr. Mider arriving in Dover on Sept 11 1857, although I am not sure if it is the right one. Harris Meider (Hersz Mider) married Flora Bemstone (?) in Birmingham synagogue in 1858. I have found no Polish records of her and guess that she went by a different name then. Harris was my 4 x grandfather. I have traced some records via the Jewish Geneology website but would welcome any additional information.
I can't find any additional information of Nachman and Chaja, although I believe that his father, Hersz, died the year before my 4 x grandfather in 1827, hence the name.
I do know that from these two people (Nachman & Chaja) our family has grown beyond belief and that there are over 600 people to date!
Finally, I have found the deaths of Nachman Hersz and Chaja Golda (no surnames)in 1852. These were registered in Parczew, Lublin Gubernia which is about 5 hours east of Kalisz. Nachman's father is listed as Nuchman Hersz and his mother, Malka Chaja Hindla. There are no details on Chaja apart from the fact that she was Nachman's spouse (Film #747900). Could this record be relevant?
Thanks for any info.
Sam

Sorry - mistake/typo... Nachman and Chaja's surviving children were Harris, Nathan, Abraham (all emigrated to the UK) and Basia, so that makes 4! I have records in Poland for Basia.
It's been over a year since I connected with everyone and your imput has been fantastic, thank you (you know who you are) x
Our extended family has now reached 662 (spouses included), there are over 200 pictures and numerous stories. We have connected with the famous, infamous and everyday people. Some of the tales are happy and some upsetting but this is all the story of the Meider family.
My research began with just two people at the turn of the 18th century.
Nachman and Chaja
I hope to trace their parents and our ancestors too although it is 'big job'!
If anyone has any information on the Meider family, it would be greatly appreciated.
I can be contacted at: *
BTW - To all the people that I have connected with, yes, we have a Jewish background but when people ask you where you are from originally, what do we say? Prussia, Russia, Germany, Poland - guess it depends how far back we go...

Hi, I am also descendant of the Mider's from Poland. My grandfather was Harry Meider, grandmother Ruby. All my life it was stressed that it was meeder and now I find it was Mider! I lived in Leyton and although I never knew my grandfather I knew many of his sisters and brothers. Three sisters lived in the same road and other siblings lived close by, most of whom I knew. I have a few photos which IS will be pleased to share and any more info. My tree is on myheritage and family are welcome to look , will need an email address. Nina's father Norman was my cousin and named after my Dad.

Have all the Meider family stopped using this site?

I would love to hear from any of you. The only relative I know of is Keith who's the grandson of Carrie, Flora's sister and also of course Newman's daughter.

Hi Cherry, You probably do not remember, but I met you at your Nan´s (Flora) when she lived upstairs to Carrie. Flora, Carrie and Beattie all lived in Osborne Road Leyton at no.17 and we lived at no. 1 so we saw quite a lot of them. My Dad was Norman Meider (I believe your father was also known by that name) son of Harry (all the above´s brother but he died in 1936). I alao uswd to see Flora when she moved to Grove Green Rd opposite Norman´s mum Ruby. If you would like to send me your email address I will invite you to the Meider tree on myheritage. I have just recently got in touch again with Roger Fisher (Beattie´s grandson. I am in contact with another relative in Canada who has loads of information and photos. I have often thought about you. We got on well when we met I can remember. I would love to hear more from you. I live in Spain so it will be difficult to meet! Take care, I hope to hear from you soon. Love Judy (Judith nee Meider)
-
Hi Judy
Lovely to hear from you. I wish I could remember meeting you, can you tell me when it was? Flora moved to Cornwall to be near my parents but when my father died she came to Surrey to be near me.
I will send you my email address.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has additional information on the Meider family.
Thanks!

Hello Meider clan,
My name is John Stewart and I live in New Zealand and I am another Meider descendant.
I have 7 or 8 DNA shared connections on Ancestry and My Heritage with Meider distant cousins. I have only found out the Meider connection within the past two months. I was adopted shortly after my birth (1955), but 13 months ago was reunited with my birth family (mother, four full sisters and other extended family). My birth mother's maiden name (Carswell) did not generate any matches on the DNA.
I found out that my grandfather (Frank Huia Carswell) was also adopted in November 1908, and work done by a niece has identified his bio parents as to be a Meider, and a Pullen. 99.9% certain the Pullen was an Emily Pullen (18 years old in 1908), but the Meider link is a bit more difficult as it looks like Frank's father was possibly an illegitimate male of Newman Meider (son of Nathan) who had emigrated to New Zealand in the 1880s.
Grandfather Frank Huia Carswell (14/11/1908-20/05/1981)
Frank was adopted by Thomas and Eliza Carswell.
His biological parents were a male from the Meider line and Emily Pullen
G Grand father Unknown male, most likely to be the illegitimate son of Newman Meider, but a slim chance it could have been Newman himself (DNA % would suggest it wasn’t Newman). When Frank was born there were only two known Meider males in New Zealand – Newman and his six year old son Harold.
GG Grand father Newman Meider (1862-1913)
GGG Grand father Nathan Meider (1835-1907)
GGGG Grand father Nachman Meider (1797-1824)
John

Newman Chesses is my great grandfather.
He was the son of Martha Meider and David Chesses (so my great, great grandparents!)
His siblings were Woolf, Solomon, Annie, Maurice and Flora (possibly more but they are the only names the screenshot I have shows).
