Title: Cruddaces in the cockfield area

any one have any info on Cruddace's in the Cockfield area.

i am stuck on a Robert and Catherine Cruddace who were both 30 at the time of the 1841 census

i cant find any further back

Did you mean this to be on the Cumberland board?   Cockfield is in Durham.   I can move it for you if you want.
The 1841 census generally rounds ages down to the nearest 5 so you need to be looking for baptisms in parish registers around 1811 backwards.   www.familysearch.org is a good place to start.
If you can find them in the 1851 census that should give a more accurate age and a place of birth.  What children did they have?  If any were born after 1837 then that birth certificate will give Catherine's maiden name and will help to find their marriage.  www.freebmd.org.uk is a good site that we all use.

Hi again
By 1851 the family are still in Cockfield but Robert has died and Catharine age 40 is with John 15 and Robert 10.   The boys are born Cockfield but she is born Forcett in Yorkshire.

Census records from 1841 to 1911 are available on various sites.  Freecen is a good one to start with and the 1881 is available free on several sites.   You may find it worth taking out a trial with one of the paying sites too.   Have a look at our Census and Resource board and see what people say about the varying information available from each site to see what would suit you best.
