Hello,
Please can someone tell me what the phrase "Fitter M.V." stands for.
Is M.V. an abbreviation for "motor vehicles" or perhaps "military vehicles" or something else? What would a fitter do?
I have attached my dad's AFB103 service record to show the original writing.
He was assigned to the 148th regiment, Royal Armoured Corps. Earlier, he had done some training as a driver/mechanic. On the 13th January 1943, it says he qualified as a "Fitter M.V., Gp A, Class III".
Also, what does "S.T.S" stand for?
O.C = Officer Commanding
D&M Wing = Driving and Maintenance Wing
AFV School = Armoured Fighting Vehicle School
What does "class III" relate to? Does it mean diesel engines?
Hope someone can help, please.

Class III is the grade attained next is Class II and then Class I.

Thanks Jean. So, if I understand you right, Class III is the top grade grouping, and Class I is the lowest?

Think it was other way round. Class III being the lowest class working upto Class I.

I wonder whether "Fitter M.V." is an abbreviation for a Military Vehicle Fitter? I suspect that my Dad was receiving training in repairing and maintaining all sort of military vehicles.
