Hi All,
Am going to contact Kew to request a quote for a copy of an entry in the silver war badge roll...and just wanted to run it by the forum....to me the text looks like:
List b/a/1207
And under cause of discharge:
3q2/via/KR/2(b)1
a o 11/1917
Many Thanks
Paul

hi,,,its 392 not 3q2 see
http://myancestors.wordpress.com/2007/08/20/paragraph-392-kings-regulations/
-
I agree - 392.
Is the 1207 reference b/a/1207 or C/a/1207?

so it looks like he was discharged under paragraph 392 Kings regulations V1a,,,which is
•(vi) Having made a mis-statement as to age on enlistment
◦(a) Soldier under 17 years of age at date of application for discharge
-
I just think it's a C. Seems his parents wanted him back!
-
Could it be 'List G/a/1207'?
Compare the 'G' with the one in 'GALLACHER' and 'GORD.'.

If that is the reason for discharge, then surely he would not qualify for a Silver War Badge which was for wounded soldiers, unfit for further service.

Hi Colin..you are correct...from what what I can determine from his discharge papers, with help on WWI forum a while back, and family info it is XVI...looks like text is obscure/changed on this image which had me wondering.
I found a recent 2nd medal card...so he has Victory & British medal too.
From a family story, my mum recalls - he was hit in the leg from a bullet that killed, and passed through one of his mates before exiting and hitting him in the leg. Only 3 survived from his unit (?).
This happened at flanders I am told.
6 Pieces of bone came out of his leg after respite in donegal over the course of a year odd..and he kept them in a little bag until one day, accidentally, one of his kids (or my gran) threw them into the fire.
On the rest of the detail I will cross my fingers and ask Kew to quote me...I was given an hourly rate before rather than a inclusive price ...so bit nervous.?
Many Thx

Lyn...I think u could be dead right on on the letters equally..I never spotted the G!
Working in reverse I have his badge number on the silver star too.

Make that 13 pieces of bone, my mum is alive and well and has many stories from my grandad that I am trying to document/get info on:)

Sorry Paul, but I think the writing on the card is quite clear, i.e. "VIa". There's nothing to suggest that there was an "X" in there at any time...

Are you sure you have the right records? I'm not an expert, but I would have thought that the red entry saying 'Name Erased' would mean that his records were revoked and there would be no medals awarded.

Hi Folks..
See link..http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,520464.msg3811909.html#msg3811909
I think something is wrong on this MIC - and on high res it almost appears someone has retraced the wording as letters behind.
The images of his discharge papers I have the originals of..
Thx, Paul

or rather I have his origional discharge papers...images uploaded:)
