Title: Help with 1911 census please
Post by: Bureau on Wednesday 13 April 11 11:47 BST (UK)
I have "lost" my family between the 1901 and 1911 census.  The Bureau family of Charles A, his wife Margaret (nee Griffiths) and children, including Charles Jnr, Tommy, Beatrice, William, Benjamin (and more) are all included in the 1901 census. I think their address was Cardiff Road, Aberdare. Charles Snr died c1904 and it seems Margaret remarried in c1910 but I don't know to whom.  Perhaps the children took the step-father's name? Can anyone help with Margaret's marriage details which may help me trace the rest of the family, or advise where the family was in 1911?

You could try a partial search on the 1911 census by using The Christian names, the place of birth and the age, using wild cards for the surname. I found my father using this method, his surname had been completely scrambled by the transcriber.

Looking on FreeBMD, and checking the transcription Volume and Page numbers with the original, it would appear that Margaret Bureau married either Enos Davies or John Zachariah in Merthyr Tydfill in Sept qtr. 1910; vol 11a page 1385.

Hope this helps,
Maurice

Have you considered the 1910 marriage to Enos Davies.
Try spelling BUREAU differently  ;)

Just put in Burea* and see what you get

Thanks to all who took the time to reply to my query.

I am visiting the UK in May so I want to make time to visit the areas where I hope the records are kept, but I now have a starting point

Thanks again.

They are on the 1911 census under Bureaw(3 boys),Glamorgan.
The marriage to Enos Davies is also correct.
There are marriages for Beatrice & Margaret Bureau in 1910 Merthyr.
Can't account for Charles & Francis although there is a marriage for a Charles Bureau to Ann M Jones 1917 B'ham.
Did find a death for an Elizabeth Mary Bureau died 1904 Merthyr aged 1 which may be a sibling.

Thanks Jim1

Did you find Tommy Bureau (Bureaw), who would have been 11 years old in the 1911 census?  I have searched the census again with different spelling but it still says no records found. Can you tell me where they were living in 1911 please, which will help me with my search when I am there. Tommy was my Grandfather.

I thought it would be easy to find ancestors with the name Bureau as I thought it was an unusual name.  Wrong!
