Title: Airdrie - Graham Street history
Post by: meaden on Monday 11 April 11 13:36 BST (UK)
Hi Everyone,
I visited Airdire a few years ago and wondered who Graham Street was named after.
My family are Grahams from Airdire, Slammanan and Torphichen.

Can anyone enlighten me on the origin of Graham Street?

Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie

According to the Peter Drummond book, Placenames of the Monklands, Graham Street in Airdrie was named after a provost, although there is no additional information on any dates or christian names.

I'm sure that if you emailed the local history section of Airdrie library, they may be able to provide some further detail.

regards,
Donnie H

James Graham was made provost of Airdrie in 1824 if that helps.
