Frederick Arthur STEVENS was the youngest child of James & Sarah STEVENS nee LEDGER. He was born in November 1883 in Southall but I can't find him on the 1901 censuses. I think his father had died about the time of his birth but his mother, Sarah, is listed as next of kin on his army papers in 1903. One of his sisters, Mary Ann, is with his grandparents, Henry & Caroline STEVENS in Yeading, Hayes in 1891 and at the same time he is with his maternal grandmother in Nottingham - listed as Frederick LEDGER. If anyone is researching this family and knows where he was in 1901 I'd be delighted to make contact.
With thanks Pat

Thank you so much - it is him!. The admission registers for this establishment are online and it gives his date of birth (I have his birth certificate). It even says that they have a photo of him.
I'm really grateful for that nudge in the right direction. Thank you.

Hi Geoff,
The Sarah LEDGER who married James STEVENS was born in 1860 in Nottingham, the daughter of Edward and Sarah Ann LEDGER (nee TRUEMAN), so was younger than the one who was the daughter of Frederick and Ann. Would be delighted to share other information about the LEDGER family. There may well be other links.
