The photo is of my Dad when he was on leave after serving in England in WWII. He and his brother visited Ireland for a week. The writing on the back simply says "Park in Dublin, 5 Sept 45". Would anyone be able to identify the location. I've been unable to enhance the picture enough to determine anything at all.

Hi,
it may be the phoenix park in the area where the zoological gardens are situated (dublin zoo) from childhood memory i recall that there was a waterfall feature and in the background of the pictue i think i can make out a yucca type plant which was (and is) a feature of many miniature waterfalls in similar depictions. tony

Thank you Tony. I will have to visit the Phoenix Park with renewed interest next time I'm in Ireland. I had a similar reply to a posting on the Wicklow mailing list which resulted in a personal exchange, saying almost exactly the same thing. I'm certain now that's where it must have been taken. :)

Hi
I think St Stephen's Green may be another possibility. The railings behind the man are distinctive and the rock formation. I think the photo might have been taken by the duck pond in the Green.

Thank you. I can see that I'll be busy touring Dublin parks on my next visit. It may not be the Phoenix Park after all.

Judging by the railing visible in this picture

My money's on St. Stephen's green.
Enjoy your visit here.

With the rock formations and their height it reminds me of St Anne's Park, Raheny on the path down to the Duckpond..
Have you tried emailing it to Dublin Corporation Parks Dept??

I think it is St Stephens Green . My grandfather was a ranger there until the 1970's and it looks like the railings from the pond. I can remember meeting him there many times.
