Title: Alice Ward
Post by: newport1 on Thursday 07 April 11 13:23 BST (UK)
I am starting a search for the parents of Alice Ward who married James Rigby. She was born in 1910 in Bolton and had a sister Ann and a brother William.

Hi

Welcome to rootschat  :)

I see they married in 1938 Doncaster reg district
Marriage March qtr 1938
Rigby  James  (spouse Ward)
Ward  Alice  (spouse Rigby)

Doncaster registration district ref 9c 1131

It would be best to get the marriage certificate which would give fathers names etc.  This applies to your other post regarding James Rigby as well.

Thank you Rosie and Allan for your replies!

Yes Rosie - you have the right information. What's the best way to get their marriage certificate?

I live in Australia so I can't easily visit places back in England.

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for the information Allan & Rosie. Would the marriage certificate have their parents names on it or should I get the birth certificates for that?

Allan - I just checked and when I clicked on the index number I found that the marriage certificate is not available to buy online for Yorkshire - only Cheshire and Lancashire. I will need to send an application by post.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Joyce

The marriage certificate should give fathers names and occupations, the birth certificate would give both parents  (unless of course they are illegitimate).

I was lucky to find a cousin on OurWardFamily website and he has done quite a lot of research on the family! He has gone as far back as Thomas Ward who was born in1685.
I have also found out that we go back to generations of Wards who lived in the village of Crosby Ravensworth in East Cumbria.
If there are any other Wards who are in this family please contact me.
