Title: THOMPSON family in CRANSLEY
Post by: tommolad on Monday 04 April 11 14:46 BST (UK)
I am related to the Thompson family from Cransley, near Kettering. I have much information but am stuck tracing the ancestors of SAMUEL THOMPSON (born abt 1800) and his wife ANN. I cannot find his parents or siblings. Can anyone help?

Was your Samuel Thompson the one married to Ann Kiplin in 1829?

Yes although I cannot find a record of that marriage so it has made it difficult to find out who the parents were. Do you have any information?

My information is from a well known website !

The marriage just says Saml Thompson & Ann Kiplin - the date 1829 - Parish of Laxton.

I don't know how helpful this information may be to you or if it is correct but it also has a Maria Thompson as Samuel's mother ( don't know if that is her maiden name or married name) No mention of Samuel's father.
This Maria Thompson was born in 1785 in Thorpe Malsor, Northants and died June 1873 in Kent, Greater London.
Samuel had at least one brother William and two sisters - Martha and Elizabeth.
Do you know if Samuel went to prison in 1844?
Hope this helps a little

Which document states that MARIA THOMPSON was Samuel's mother? Do you have access to a birth certificate, baptism?? I know that MARIA appears as a widow in 1841 & 1851 census and that she lives next door to Samuel with her son William. I presumed she was related but as a sister-in-law or something. Any further information you have would be very appreciated

No, this information is from someone on A****try who has traced the same tree as yourself.

A Samuel Thompson was on trial in Northamptonshire on the 4th March, 1844 for Larceny - he was found Not Guilty. He was aged 39 years.

Ah... don't always trust that information. Have found many mistakes in the past, especially when it has no evidence or records attached. Thanks for your help anyway. I will continue to search for records.....

I did say I didn't know how correct it was, just thought it may have lead you up the right path.

The information on the Northamptonshire Trial is correct.

That looks very interesting.... and fits in well. Although unusual for both to have the same surname? Are any parents mentioned?
