After searching for clues for a year; I'm asking for help, please, locating birth record and especially parent's names for my 2nd great grandfather:
William Craig, born Sept 1827 in Greenock
and for his brother:
George McFee Craig, born in about 1833.
No luck identifying the family on the 1841 census. William emigrated to California circa 1849, and was a member of Presbyterian church in San Francisco.
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi Katie
welcome to rootschat
I have looked and sorry but the only William Craig I can see around
that year of birth in Greenock is
William Craig born 1829 in Greenock but he is on the Catholic Parish Records
for St Mary's church
and no George Craig's listed either

Hi Elaine,
Thank you so much for checking! I really appreciate you efforts!

Katie, try the Greenock Telegraph BMD archive at the Watt Library, Greenock. Don't have the link unfortunately but I have used it. Skoosh.

This is the link, Skoosh, that you mention:

Hi Katie
This is just a long shot, there may be a connection.
I have a William McFee (McFie) Craig born 1855 Greenock, his parents were Samuel Craig & Jane McFie.

Kathy; That may be a relative of the George and William I'm looking for. Where did you find the record?
Thanks so much, this has been quite a mystery. They had to have parents somewhere!

Hi Katie,
My Craig's were born Abbey Paisley, I can locate them in Johnston 1841 by 1851 Samuel is married and living in Greenock.
Samuel has a brother William born 1826, but no sign of a George.
Was William married prior to leaving Scotland?
