Hi there
I have a James Burgh Long who died in 1891 (NZBMD), aged 63 yrs. I believe I have him on the 1890 AKL, AKL Electoral role, on Howe Street, Occ: Clerk. I have searched Auckland cemeteries online and haven't found him. Can anyone help :)
Regards

He's still on 1893 roll
but that could easily be an error

Electorate City of Auckland
Surname LONG Given Names James Burgh
Place of Residence Howe St

Hi Lil,
I wonder if he is a churchyard?
Symonds St cemetery closed in 1886,Mangere cemetery opened in 1894 so that eliminates them.
Howe St is pretty near the city centre running off Karangahape road nornally it would have been Purewa or Waikumete

Hmmm Althea, I wonder. I went and checked Christchurch cemetery's as that was where he previously lived, he's not there. Thought maybe James in AKL might have been a son.
Janette, thanks, have checked Waikumete, Purewa, Mangere and smaller cemetery's, am not finding him though.

Hi lil,
Not sure if you have this already, but looks like he married Georgina Connolly Doolan 1877, and she died 1910 and is buried at Waitara. Perhaps that might lead to a clue ???

Hi John
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do have the information you gave, thanks :)
I believe they may have seperated, Georgina didn't appear with him on the Electoral Role that I saw in Auckland 1890. Shes not with him on the 1800-1881 in Heatcote, Canterbury but I dont see any womans names on that, this maybe before woman were allowed on the rolls. Georgina is in Avon, Canterbury in 1896 and 1900.
I wonder though if its worth looking in Cnterbury for his death. I've not found him in Taranaki.

Yes you are right about the rolls, first registration for women was 1893..lots missed the E Roll deadlines, so you tend to get more complete roll by 1896

Is the son's middle name BURGH as well, which made you think maybe the AUckland rolls weren't the right generation?

Lil,
Just thinking outside the square and wondered if this is worth looking into, on the Burial Locator, there is a James BURGH died 1891 but the age was 87 buried at Linwood Cemetery.
But I cannot find this person on the BDM site. Can anyone see if they can?
Cheers

Hi Althea
It's when you found James on the 1893, that I thought there maybe a son.
NZ BMD James Burgh Long died 1891 Folio 6003 aged 63 years. He was born 1827/8 England.
KHP, always good to think outside the square, can solve many cases that way ")

Thought it was a coincidence, but not maybe him, but he isn't on the Linwood Cemetery site.
Lil, you might need to go and check the cemetery fiche for this chap.
Cheers

I am keen to know more about Georgina Connolly Doolan.
I have Doolan and Connolly ancestors from Ireland with these names.
Georgina appears to have come to NZ around 1864.
Eliza Doolan came out about the same time.
Thanks
