Title: Castle Carlton Church

Hi there, I would like to know if there is still a church and/or graveyard at Castle Carlton. I understand that the church was called Holy Cross and rebuilt in the 1830s, but I cannot find any particular mention of it.

Also, is this the only place where burials before 1800 might be? Neither North or South Restion go back that far, and I'm stumped otherwise.

Castle Carlton is/was a hamlet in South Reston parish http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LIN/SouthReston/

Records apparently go back to 1760ish (same page).  BTs back to 1562.

The only church at South Reston appears to be this one http://tinyurl.com/4v8uk9m which appears newer and has no graveyard that I can see.

GENUKI has reference to the church - Holy Cross - being declared redundant around 1982-83 and was demolished. The site was then used to expand the churchyard.

The church at South Reston - St Edith - suffered a similar fate being declared redundant in July, 1980 and demolished in 1982.

Thanks. I've been to South Reston (and North Reston too), but couldn't find graves older than the mid-1800s.

The link to the graveyard at Castle Carlton just looks like an overgrown patch of woodland. I guess I will have to hack my way through to the graves...

Castle Carlton church appears on the 1889 1:2500 map but not the 1906 map (choose your map on the right)
