Title: Place name: Scoles
Post by: lobster boy on Monday 28 March 11 22:23 BST (UK)
I'm looking for where a Thurstan Hardman may have come from. He married his wife Elizabeth Naylor in Wigan in 1749.

They had a daughter buried 1750 in Wigan and he is described as Thurstan Hardman of Scoles.

Could anyone tell me where Scoles is?

Thanks

There's a Scholes just over the border in Yorkshire, close to Rotherham...

Hi, yes Scholes is definitely in Wigan.

Wigan History shop may well have the marriage records, so that's worth a try.  You can google for more info.

The couple appear to have moved to Warrington. There are two baptisms and two burials at St. Elphin's listed on Lan-OPC.
