Hi All,
The attached three images of Narberth Postal workers are from Narberth Museum archives and might be of interest to researchers. No additional information was with the images as to the occasions or dates.
I have also added extractions from the 1891 and 1901 Narberth Town Census returns. Some of the persons in the photographs must be on the Census information. Any help identifying anyone on the photographs would be much appreciated.
Regards
John

My guess is that Postman_03 photograph was taken in the 1920’s-30’s either at the dedication of the Narberth War Memorial or a Remembrance Day. There appear to be 5 Great War survivors plus a slight possibility of a further 2.
Therefore from my Military Headstone research the following may be included in one or more of your photo’s.
John McLauchlan, my research shows, Oakwood St Bride's Hill Saundersfoot aged 86 had followed a military career since the age of 18 yrs. Enlisted 1857 10 yrs with the 93rd Highland Regt, then to the 23rd Royal Welsh Fusiliers until his discharge. He saw active service during the final stages of the Indian Mutiny, the troopship conveying him to India being shipwrecked twice. 1874 went under Lord Wolsely to the Ashanti War and also served in the Afghan war of 1878. 1882 saw him in Dublin when Lord Frederick Cavendish and Mr Burke were assassinated in Phonenix Park. On retirment came to live in Saundersfoot and for several years was the town postman. He was survived by wife son and 5 daughters inc Mrs R. Read postmistress of Saundersfoot and Mrs F. Ricahrds of Southfield Villa.
Robert Adams A member of the 4th Btn the Welsh Regt died of Pneumonia 27 Apr 1921 aged 26, of pneumonia or spotted fever, nephew of Mr Henry Adams of Market Square Narberth, Robert was a postman prior to joining up during W.W. 1.
Joe Thomas resided St James St Narberth died aged 51 circa 1940. Worked for the Post Office as postman on the Molleston beat, found deceased near Captains Style. Joined the Army on the outbreak of W.W. 1 into the Royal Engineers, badly wounded suffered from his disablility all his life, hearing and lungs also effected.
T. Phillips Local Postman of Castlemartin. KIA on West Front aged about 34 yrs joined 14th Bn Welsh Regt was in action on Tuesday week with a machine gun section and was shot dead, his comrade who was also killed had been buried. Whilst the inference is that T. Phillips was of Castlemartin, I do not believe this to be the case, however I have yet to prove his native location.

Hi Orielbenfro,
Many thanks for the quick response and the very detailed information.
I have been told that there is a lady living in Narberth whose late husband appears on the postman_03 photograph. I will be in Narberth next week and I will see if I can find any further information.
Thanks again

Hi Researchers,
I had a great response from the Friends of Narberth Museum, also local history researchers and now attach the results.
We think that these names are now correct, unless you know otherwise! Please tell us!

I realise this thread is over 2 years old now but I am listing some photographs on eBay and was doing some research and it brought me here. I have a collection of 6 photograph / postcards showing what I believe is the opening of Narbeth Post Office & it's first customer. It shows Cliff Brown ? opening it and Post Master Albert Joseph Thomas serving a customer inside. If anyone would like me to post images for research , let me know.
Wow! it took me 6 attempts to post this due to the verification tool :D

One deposit which would very much appreiciate your collection is very professionally run by Volunteers ~ Narberth Museum. It has just opened in its new very old Bond/Warehouse in Narberth itself.
A visit to and research of their collection is a must for anyone researching the town.

Hi PenarthLad,
Thanks for the contact. I originally put this item on Rootsweb hoping it might elect some response from Narberth Post Office researchers. Sadly not much interest except for friend Orielbenfro, a mine of information. I'm sure that Pauline Griffiths, Curator of Narberth Museum would be very interested in the photographs.
