I'm in the UK and, though not directly related myself, am hoping to find someone of the above descent who would have been in Wollongong, NSW in the mid-1950's.

Is this the family you are after?
MOANE Charles m. BONNYMAN Margaret 1910 Wollongong #7005

Thanks, Merlin
It is as a result of the Ancestry post that I've tried here, as apparently neither of those who have posted Trees on Ancestry have actually logged on for more than 6 months and I really do have a good amount of interesting material for them - result of a junk sale find in the UK.

Okay, so you would like to find *living family members* to pass these items onto?
Our White Pages Telephone directory shows a few by that name still living in the area of Wollongong:

Well thank you again, Merlin
I'll start with those.
Much appreciated, Chilis

Your welcome, if you do find them to be the correct families drop a line back here & let us all know :)
If you need further help just ask ;D
PS. I have just sent you a PM with an email address of one of the family in Wollongong :)
-
Got the PM, thank you
If this results in the family I'm after, it'll be the fastest contact I've ever managed to make. I'll take back EVERYTHING I've ever said about the phenomena of computers/networks and Facebook junkies, etc.!
Chilis
PS: I've avoided Facebook and am still holding out, but ......

I'm not a Facebook person either BUT you can search without being a member, which as you can see can help in some situations ;D

Merlin,
As my late father would have said, "The thot plickens"
I have now seen a 'comment' that has been added to one of two Public Member Trees which would indicate, correctly I think, that the MOANE attachment is to an incorrect Margaret BONNYMAN.
Looking at early Electoral Rolls (1954) for NSW, I see that the Charles MOANE who married Margaret BONNYMAN is listed as a 'labourer'. In the event, I do know that the Margaret F BONNYMAN who has been attributed to this family's Public Member Tree was in fact daughter of a Superintendent Marine Engineer who married in Cardiff in 1905.
Yet again, research has been flimsily based.
So, thank you for your help Merlin. It's got me there and back in the space of an afternoon!

Their deaths are registered in the NSW BDM online here:
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexingOrder.cgi
MOANE CHARLES WOLLONGONG 17555/1962
Parents: EDWARD & CAROLINE
MOANE MARGARET ELIZABETH WOLLONGONG 33585/1958
Parents: WILLIAM & ELIZABETH
They also have death notices in the newspaper online index here:
http://ryersonindex.net/search.php
If you want the details from the death notices them I can look them up for you :)
-
Yes, thanks you Merlin
This Margaret is Margaret E and goodness knows why a Margaret F(alconer) Bonnyman born Scotland has been added into the MOANE's Public Members Tree..
Problem solved

Hi Chilis
I'm related to Margaret Falconer Bonnyman and can confirm she didn't marry Charles Moane.
It is also possible that the Margaret Bonnyman who did marry Charles Moane is also related. Three Bonnyman brothers from Scotland, Walter was my gggrandfather, John was the grandfather of Margaret Falconer Bonnyman and Alexander emigrated to Australia. His son William was born and died in Wollongong and Williams wife was Elizabeth. I'm aware of 4 children that William and Elizabeth had but none were named Margaret so whether there is a 5th child named Margaret not in NSW BMD's or its a totally different family I don't know. I do know a descendant of Alexander who might have more information so if you don't have any luck contacting a Moane descendant, let me know

Andy, I have sent you a PM regards this hunt we were on last night :)

Hi,
I believe my Dad is of Moane Bonnyman descent and he is from Wollongong. I will pass this on to him and confirm.
Thanks
-
Hi,
I have spoken to my Dad - they are his Grandparents.
They had 9 children, one of them Patrick Vincent Moane who married Jessie Bannon. Patrick and Jessie are my fathers parent. My father is Frederick Charles.
He says he is interested in the what you have found from the junk sale. You will have to excuse me, as I am new at this, but how to we go about getting in touch.
Thanks
-
Hi
Welcome to Rootschat. The Junk sale find does not relate to the Margaret Bonnyman who married Charles Moane but to a different family namely Margaret Falconer Bonnyman who married Jenkyn Davis Jones in Cardiff, Wales. She was the daughter of James Smith Bonnyman and Agnes Hastings. A couple of trees on Ancestry have incorrect information.
It is possible that your Margaret Bonnyman is descended from Alexander Bonnyman and Sarah Hinchcliffe who came out from Scotland in 1839.

Hi
If you are referring to my suggestion that Margaret BONNYMAN may be a descendant of Alexander BONNYMAN and Sarah HINCHCLIFFE then it is just a thought based on the fact that BONNYMAN is not a common name and some of their descendants did live in the Wollongong area.
If you haven't already done so then you need to get a copy of the marriage certificate for Charles MOANE and Margaret BONNYMAN. This should give you the names of her parents including mothers maiden name (William and Elizabeth according to the NSW Death Index) and place of birth. This information will help in going back further
As I said BONNYMAN is not a very common name and many of them originated in North East Scotland (Aberdeenshire and Banffshire)
