Hi,
I am looking to trace the family of Dorothy(Dorothea) Deery, Dunkineely, Co. Donegal (dau. of Patrick Deery & Mary Conwell) who married William James McGurk (son of James McGurk & Susan Clemens) in Immaculate Conception Church on Feb 11th 1890 in Montclair Town, Essex, New Jersey.
According to 1900 Census they had 3 sons and 1 daughter. The children being: William, Thomas, Joseph and May. Dorothy was born around 1859
Would anyone have any information on this family or perhaps descendants of this family.

Hi - hope this is what you want. In 1910 they are living still in Essex Co. but William has "England" as birth place, and is a widower. He is a 50 yr old gardener working for a private family. Sister Margaret, a 52 yr old single woman is living with the family and states immigrated 1885. William James (son_ is 19 and working in insurance office; May (Mary) is 17, Thomas is 15, and Joseph is 12. All kids state both parents born Ireland, so England for Wm Sr. is error.
Will check 1920...
Amazing! In 1920 all kids and sister are still living with William, Sr. They appear to be living at 25 Montague Place in Montclair, Essex, NJ. Respective occupations are gardener, insurance clerk, stenographer, carpenter, and clerk at steel works. Margaret still has no occupation.
I don't have access to 1930.

You can view Thomas' WWII Reg Card on:

You may find additional information about family members on the site (I didn't check too thoroughly).

I think I found the sons of William J. Jr. & Mildred McGurk who were on the 1930 Census, and it appears that one of them is still living. I'll send you the info via private message.

hi,
To everyone who replied to my post, many thanks. This news is great because up until Friday I didn't even know that Dorothy existed.

You're welcome.
I found an article in the New York Times from 12 Jul. 1930 that seems to refer to William J. McGurk's estate. It says June 20 in parentheses after his name, so I think that might be his date of death.
I also found a funeral notice in the NY Times for son William James McGurk, who was listed as husband of Mildred Hart. His funeral was at his home at 32 Frederick St. and requiem mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Montclair.

Dorothy Deery married William James McGurk - my great-grandparents! I have extensive information on the McGurk's - a few pieces of information on the Deery side but have just started working on it. Send me a message and let me know your interest and what information might be helpful to you!
