Hi
on the free indexes at ancestry you can track the electoral rolls for JV Mackie from 1949 Auckland, then Bay of Plenty area

In the 1949 one he is a freezing worker lving at 15 Montague St. Arch Hill Auckland, no other Mackie at that address

Hi Ruth,
He is buried in an RSA plot,

There should be a file at the NZDF

Hi Ruth,

My name is Lyn, one of James Victor Evan Mackie's daughters. Dad was the only one who came out from Scotland. He came on a Scottish Merchant Navy Ship during world war 2 and stayed here in NZ.  As I am interested in family history I asked dad when  he was alive to write down his parents names. He said he was named after his father, James Victor Evan. He said his mothers name was Alexina Grey (he said her maiden name was not spelt like my mothers which was Gray.) If you are related and know differently I would really appreciate  knowing.   Sadly he never gave me any names for his grandparents or any other relations and I would love to know my Scottish heritage. If anyone has information on them I would really appreciate it.

Hi Ruth thank you, this is great news.  So your mother and Dad are cousins, it's awesome to finally have contact with  someone who has information on my Scottish family line. I tried making contact many years ago to no avail, so I  am grateful to you for your help. thank you so much you have made my day. I have a photo of Nana and her sisters but do not know their names also one of nana and dad when he was a wee boy.
all the best
Lyn   :)
