Hi everyone,
I am searching for any information or photographs regarding my grandfather Allan Vincent Henderson
(1907-1980). He served in the Australian Armed Forces between 1940 and 1946. He served in the 2/13 Field Ambulance. His service number was WX8112.
I am puzzled as to why I cannot find much information on him as there are so many military based databases online.
If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

hope this helps

Hello djalkman. My father was also in 2/13th Field Ambulance. I know some time has passed but I have just come upon your enquiry and am wondering if you have obtained all the information that you require. There is an abridged history with anecdotes of the 2/13th that was published in 1995 which is now out of print and I'm told there are no more copies available, however I have a copy of my own and in the nominal roll of embarkation from Fremantle on 10th February 1941 it shows that your grandfather was a member of "B" Company.
Please let me know if I can help your research in any further manner.

Hello TB
I haven't really found much more since my original post.
Thank you for your help. I will keep an eye out on ebay for anyone selling a copy.
Is it possible to get a scan of that page?
Thanks again!

The title of the book is "Medics At War", subtitle "An Abridged History & Anecdotes of the 2/13th Field Ambulance 1940-1945", author Len McCarthy, ISBN 0 646 26471 0 (Hard cover edition),
0 646 26728 0 (Soft cover edition).
Depending on your location you may be able to view a copy at your regional library, or as well as Ebay you could look online at something like Regimental Books Online or Military Books.
As mentioned by Trevor earlier your grandfather's service records aren't on line but you can request them from National Archives of Australia by email to archives@naa.gov.au or write to
PO Box 7425, CANBERRA BUSINESS CENTRE ACT 2610, AUSTRALIA
I have tried to attach a scan of the page, please let me know if it doesn't happen.

Thanks for that, the scan did work but it is very small.
I just requested the documents yesterday from the National Archives. Hopefully it won't take too long.
Thanks for your help, I will keep an eye out online for the book! 8)

Alison, this should be larger, learning by practice whilst trying to keep it within transmission limits. You could enlarge further on a photocopier. Best wishes for your response from NAA.

That scan is perfect, thanks very much!

Hi all, sorry this is so late but I just came across this post while doing a google search. Len McCarthy was my grandfather. He passed away several years ago, however I believe we still have a few copies of his book Medics at War if anyone is still searching. I would be happy to help out getting a copy. Email me at <mccarthy (at) 0x6a.com>.
