He was born around 1806 in Birkenhead England.
He married Minnie Emma Alice Royal B: 8 Juy 1875
His mother was Winifred Elizabeth Parry 1848 - 1864
Thomas & Minnie had two children
Harry R Cartwright Son
abt 1900
Ilford, Essex, England
Winifred Ethel R Cartwright Daughter
1906-10-23
115 Balfour Rd, Ilford Essex, England
If any one could help I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Not sure why you posted this in the Australia forum?
Do you know what Thomas did for a living?
Minnie Royal was born in Hackney, as seen on the 1901 census:
Reference RG13, Piece 1651, Folio 31, Page 12
54 Windsor Road, Ilford, Essex
Cartwright, Minnie E Wife F 25 b Hackney, Middlesex
Cartwright, Harry R Son M 3 months b Ilford, Essex
Ball, Ellen Mother-in-Law Married F 50 Maternity Nurse b Chilmark, Wiltshire
Royal, Ethel H Sister-in-Law F 27 Manageress City Restaurant b Freemantle, Hampshire
Ball, Gladys W Sister-in-Law F 13 b Upton Park, Essex
The marriage took place near Newcastle Upon Tyne!
September qtr 1899
Tynemouth district Vol 10b, page 444
Cartwright, Thomas
Royal, Minnie Emma A
But, I can't find Thomas in 1901?
Of the 6 Thomas Cartwrights born in Cheshire, around 1864, 4 are married and with their wives, 2 are single!

I'm confused ...
I read this that your great grandfather was born in 1806, Birkenhead, and also that his mother's dates are 1848 - 1864 ... and that he had two children, one born abt 1900, and the other in 1906 ... As it is not possible for a child to be born before his mother, I wonder if you could please help me to help you.
KGarrad has already mentioned this is on the Australian Board, and that is adding to my confusion.
Cheers, JM

There is a duplicate thread on the England - General forum.
If I knew how to create a link to that thread, I would! :(

Well I feel like a idiot... I must have typed in the wrong dates ...so sorry...the dates are (double checked) lol
Thomas CARTWRIGHT was born in 1864
His mother ( Winifred Elizabeth Parry) was born in 1848 to 1864 ...this may mean she died giving birth?
He married Minnie Emma Alice Royal and they had two children as above.
And yes the other thread is mine as I am very new to this and as they ended up all living in Australia I put it here first...then realised what I had done.
I have worked around Thomas on other areas but can not find any definate leads on Thomas father or siblings. I have a photo.
I do appreciate any help.

You say they all ended up in Australia
Do you know which state in Australia, or when they may have come, and who came ...
Are we looking for Thomas 1864 - ? & Minnie 1875 -? and their two children, Harold R 1900 - ? and Winifred Ethel R 1906 -.... all with surname CARTWRIGHT?
Cheers, JM

Searched: marriages BDM NSW from 1910-1950
Marriage : 1930 LOCKHART
Husband: MACAULIFFE THOMAS J
Wife: CARTWRIGHT WINIFRED E R
Marriage: 1948 CANTERBURY
Husband: CARTWRIGHT HARRY RICHARD
Wife: HUNT IDA SHANNON
Could be the correct marriage for Winifred but Harry would have been almost 50 years old.
Maybe a 2nd marriage? or maybe just the wrong Harry

There's a SUBMITTED online tree (so you will need to carefully verify the following information)
Winifred Ethel Royal CARTWRIGHT, daughter of Thomas CARTWRIGHT and Minnie Alice ROYAL
Winifred born 23 Oct 1906 at 115 Balfour Rd, Ilford Essex, England
Married Thomas James McAULIFFE (a boxer) who was born 25 July 1897 in Victoria Australia. This was his second marriage. This wedding was at Convent at Lockhart, in NSW, on 26 April 1930. There were children of that marriage.
1901 Minnie CARTWRIGHT with Harold R and others (but not Thomas, her husband) is at 54 Windsor Rd, ILFORD, in Essex. Perhaps Thomas was serving in Sth Africa (Boer War).

Yes this is correct ~ Winifred is my Nanna Mac

Yes the tree on ancestry is probably mine "The Matheson Tree"
so you will see I have most the info to do with all the other members...just get stuck at Thomas 1864 ~ nans father.
Sadly nan has been gone for about 16 years now and mum said she never spoke about her father and that when she referred to him she called him "father" very impersonal.
I will check out the Boer war idea
I just want to be clear with every one I have a lot of research and notes from nan and others on all other members but no one seems to know or talk about Thomas.

Hi there,
Some thoughts
Do you know/suspect if Thomas Cartwright came to Australia ...
Have you found Minnie and/or Harold and/or Winifred's arrival to Australia ...
Were there any children between Harold and Winifred or after Winifred perhaps do did not survive their infancy
And YES, twas "The Matheson Tree" that I found online :D and you have done a great deal of research on everyone there and you have so little for this elusive Thomas ... He's been a bit of a brickwall for you .. :)
I'll try to get my thinking cap into first gear...
Cheers, JM

Im looking at
http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au and have found a T Cartwright who came over 1909 with another gentelmen surname Cartwright...this is a possability as there is a census that says Minnie & her son Harry were at the house (with her mother and sister) with out Thomas ...but it still refers to Thomas as the head. But of course this may not mean any thing at all as Winifred was also not preent

Hi, I have just found this thread about Thomas Cartwright (my great grandfather) and here is some information that I can give and have records to verify almost all of this. I also have lots of records regarding the family in my private family tree.
Thomas Cartwright born 6.12.185 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, England
Father: Henry was an Engineer at the time of Thomas' marriage
Possible Family in 1871 Census (not able to verify this is his family)
Father: Henry 39, born in Rippon Yorkshire - tinplate ?
Mother: Mary 41, born in North Wales
Brother: William 12, Scholar born in Birkenhead
Thomas: 5, Scholar born in Birkenhead
Brother: Henry 2 born in Yorkshire
Occupation: Mariner -1st, 2nd and Master Certificates obtained in UK - Certificate No: 022508
Naturalised as a US Citizen aged 37, first arriving in the US at aged 21 (date of birth given is 6.12.1865). Photo attached to document.
Passport Applications: one at aged 49 (Cert no 10644) and the other at 51 (Cert No 57174), date & place of birth given as 6.12.1865, Birkenhead, Cheshire England. Photos on both applications.
Also have some of the ships that Thomas worked and the positions he held.
Thomas & Minnie Emma Alice Royal married 6 September 1899 in Tynemouth, Northumberland, and have 2 children Harry Royal Cartwright 1900-1988 & Winifred Ethel Royal Cartwright 1906-1996.
Winifred's School Admissions show that in 1918 Thomas was a Officer, Mercant Marine and iupon hr leaving in 1924, he was a Lieutenant in the US Naval Reserves. Also, on Harry's WWII draft papers 1940, Thomas (aged 75) was a Lieutenant Commander living in the US Naval Home (which was a place for retired officers) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have tried to find out information from the Naval Home but the records have been moved to St Louis and you can only access the records in person at the National Archives (I live in overseas).
Minnie lived in Montreal Canada from 1928 onward, while Thomas worked on the ships in the US. Not able to find her in any records other than in England.
Both Thomas and Minnie's deaths, are also a mystery.
Harry joined his father in the US about 1928 and died in 1988 in Brooklyn, Anne Arundel, Maryland. I have the record for Harry's 1928 US Application for Seaman's Protection Certificate. His birth date is wrong on the paperwork, not sure why.
Winifred immigrated to Australia in approx 1928, married and had 8 children.
If anyone could help, would be grateful and if you need more information, please let me know.

I have 16 years of volunteer work at a cemetery in Maryland, USA that has human beings and pets buried there. There is a grave there for Harry Royale Cartwright who was born December 13, 1900 and died May 11, 1988.
Currently I need a letter from a family member to avoid the disinterment and removal of Mr. Cartwright. A developer wants to build on the cemetery, so if there is a family member that can help it would mean a great deal.
For details please contact me as soon as possible.

Hi Rosa,
The two members will be notified of your reply by email, poor Mr Cartwright.

Sarah

Hi Rosa
Could you please send more information, so this can be discussed with family.
-
Dear Clanmac,
Thank you for getting touch : )
A developer, Mark Levy/H & H Rock, wants to build on the Rosa Bonheur Memorial Park (RBMP), Elkridge, MD. Since Maryland does not yet have legislation protecting pet cemeteries Mr. Levy believes that if he can have the human burials removed he can ignore the pet burials and proceed to build on the RBMP. There is current pet cemetery regulation legislation (HB0676) being sought by Maryland Delegate William Wivell, which has been passed through the House of Representatives and is currently under consideration in the Senate. There is also the Howard County Cemetery Preservation Act (CPA) of 1993, which is also supposed to protect the RBMP and the loved ones resting therein. I have been unable to receive a clear answer as to why the CPA of 1993 legislation is not being enforced by Howard County officials and government.
It is Meadow Ridge Memorial Gardens Cemetery that Mr. Levy has contacted to remove the human burials. Robert Anderson is the contact person at Meadow Ridge. However, the Department of Planning and Zoning/Beth Burgess has stated that letters opposing the disinterment and removal will be helpful. The letter sent by family member(s) need to state: 1) That the family is opposed to the disinterment and removal of their family member(s), and 2) That the family has not been contacted by any company, entity, and/or person requesting their permission and/or approval for such disinterment and/or removal. This letter would be e-mailed to: Robert.Anderson3@dignitymemorial.com and cc'ed to rosabonheursociety@juno.com so a copy would be on file. Please type "Harry Royale Cartwright" for the e-mail Subject. If the family would desire they could also cc a copy to bburgess@howardcountymd.gov.
The letters that have been received by the Rosa Bonheur Society (RBS) from families with human burials opposing disinterment and removal have been effective in keeping loved ones at rest. It is for this reason that RBS is requesting the submission of a letter from your family to ensure that Mr. Cartwright will continue to rest with his pet(s) - an option that is not available currently at any other Maryland cemetery.
RBS members are delighted to have learned more about Mr. Cartwright through the contributors to this site. We have been seeking information since 2007 and are glad to have finally made a connection with family member(s).
I hope that this information is helpful. If there is any additional information that you need and/or would like to know please feel free to contact me.

Hi Rosa. I'm sorry it has been 12 years since I was on this site and a different email address.
I have a picture of my great uncles grave head stone - how do you know if they were buried with an animal. And if they weren't are their remains getting moved to another place?
