I hope something can be done to brighten this little lot up, they all look so serious and on their best behaviour, but then in those days you didn't smile when being photographed.
Thanks in advance.

Later than 1892.1896-98ish.

Thanks Jim.
1892 is handwritten on the back but of course it could be incorrect. Did children's clothes follow the same rules as adults? They seem to be a pretty mixed bunch of styles but the teacher is clear.
I have 2 others - dated 1894 and 1896 which I'll post later, perhaps there's a mix up there.

Beautiful photo. Do you know the name of the school? They all seem very well dressed. I bet the child in the top row in the middle and also the child in the top row at the end near the teacher were twins! What do you think?

Miss is wearing a Gigot sleeve which first appeared in 1893 & grew larger up to about 1897.This one's about mid inflation.
Some of the girls have a variation of this but with a much looser upper, first seen around 1896.
Quite a fashionable bunch & not your average back st. school.
There's a little Indian girl in front & this may be a school for children of the Empire, sent back to the UK by parents living abroad.

Super Photo, and yes, I think they look like twins too!
And do you know that my niece, who is now in her late 30's, is in the photo too?? ;D Nah! Only kidding, but I did do a double take (twice) when I saw the child in the front row on the far right! I cannot believe the resemblance, it's amazing! Not just a wee bit like her, but really - identical! I can just see her now as a wee girl with her Holly Hobbie Dress on!! ;)

Hi
Sorry, Miabar but I don't know the name of the school. All I know is it was in Königsberg in Prussia (now Kalinengrad) and that it was a girl's private school. Several daughters of diplomats attended so that could explain the little Indian girl. If the girl's you mention are not twins then they are at least sisters I should think.
Thanks Jim for the info. Glad you like the photo Jeanne.
