Hi. I wonder if anyone who has access to this CD would be so kind as to look for baptisms for any or all of the family name POSCHICH in the Greymouth area. The time I am interested in is the late 1800's. I am also interested in the name PEZAR (could be spelt Puzar, Pesar).
I can only find two Poschich births in the BMD index but know there were more children. Thank you .

Thank you. Yes I know there is a CD and there is a copy in the ChCh library, now closed I think due the earthquake. And since I am in Brisbane couldn't look it up there anyway.
I've written to the Catholic Church trying to buy a copy but received a reply saying sales have been suspended for the time being.
I've googled it but can't find it in Brisbane.
Have fingers crossed that someone on the list does have a copy at home.

Hi emrose,
If you have no joy here you could try the guy on this link, although its four years old his address may still be valid.

Hi Althea,
Copied and pasted from the website
The Catholic Diocese of Christchurch stretches from the Conway River in North Canterbury to the Waitaki River in South Canterbury , as well as Westland and the Chatham Islands.
A purchase service is also available for baptism certificates, although with the earthquake the catholic archives will be closed for a long time I imagine.

Hello...
Here's a few NZ regional libraries that hold it. If you have no luck elsewhere ask here for a look-up from someone visiting their local library.
Click here (http://nzlc.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&Search_Arg=Catholic+Diocese+of+Christchurch+baptism+index+&SL=None&Search_Code=GKEY^*&CNT=25&HIST=1) and hope that the link works.
If it doesn't go here (http://nzlc.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?DB=local&PAGE=first) and search on "Catholic Diocese of Christchurch baptism index"
The State Library of Victoria has a copy too so if you know someone in Melbourne give them a call :-)

Hi Julie,
A lady on the other forum kindly looked up the names
Poschich No:123974, Mary, 23rd August 1874 Greymouth
No:138932, Michael Thomas 23rd Nov 1878 Grey Valley/Ngahere
Poschiez No:123737, Joanne Andreas 30th Oct 1870 Greymouth
No:123616, Antonius 8th Nov 1869 Greymouth
No:123526, Catharina Anna 9th Feb 1868 Greymouth
Note in brackets behind the name Poschiez is the name Poschich - so this is a error of spelling at time of record.
Nothing for the other names in all forms.

Many thanks to both of you, this info is fantastic and solves a couple of mysteries.
Maybe when the Catholic Church in Christchurch is back up and running we will be able to send for some certificates.
I really appreciate your help.

Hi Julie
The following birth registrations also appear on NZ BMD (online) :
1869 - POSCHICK - Antonio
1872 - POSCHICK - Marion *
[Parents names not given on index. ]
* Is "Marion" maybe "Maryann" / "Mary Ann" - who marries George PUZAR / PEZAR in 1889 ?
-
No:123526, Catharina Anna 9th Feb 1868 Greymouth
PapersPast has the death notice of Mrs Anastatia POSCHICH (1917) at the residence of her daughter, Mrs A. HILL.
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/
"Grey River Argus" - 22 February 1917 - page 2 - Deaths
NZ Marriage (NZ BDM online)
Catherine POSCHBICH [sic] - Athur HILL -- 1892
[Another source shows bride as "Catherine POSCHICH". ]
PS: PapersPast also has several hits for the name(s) PUZAR / PEZAR / PAZAR ... as well as for POSCHICH.

Thank you for this information. We did know there was a Catherine but had no official record of her until the above info from the CD.

Just saw your first post Lucy2. Being dumb we only looked up Poschich on the BDM and not alternative spellings - should have known better.
We also think "Marion" is the Mary Ann who married George Pezar.
Thank you.
