HI all,
Can anyone help me with monumental inscriptions or cemetery plots for the Handsworth Parish Church for an ANN HYDE [nee CHEADLE] b. abt 1803 who died 14/11/1879 and was apparently buried at Handsworth Parish Church. She was the daughter of W. [possibly William] Hyde.
In 1879 Handsworth Parish church was part of Staffordshire, but the Handsworth Cemetery opened in 1909 and the part of Staffordshire that became Warwickshire ???
All the information i have is on a handwritten tree past onto me, so I am now trying to verify information. Ann was the wife of JOHN HYDE 1803-1852 from Worcester.
Also, I am having trouble finding the births of Ann, her brother William and sister Mary, neither of whom married.
Any suggestions gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Lesley

Hi Lesley,
I'm a bit confused.
You say Ann Hyde b 1803 was married to John Hyde.
You say Ann's maiden name was Cheadle.
You say Ann's father is W Hyde. Surely if her maiden name was Cheadle, her father would be Cheadle not Hyde ... :-\
You want to find the births of Ann, her brother William and sister Mary. The family might appear on some of the censuses (which should give their places of birth), but I just want to clear up what their surname is before I search for them.
Do you know the year that Ann married John Hyde?
-
Ooops sorry for the confusion. You are correct, Ann's father was William CHEADLE.
Ann married John Hyde 29 Oct 1829 Shifnal, Shropshire. I do have the certificate for that, what I can't find is her birth or that of her siblings.
1871 census has William Cheadle aged 68 born Dawley Magna, Shropshire [abt 1803]
Ann Hyde widow aged 66 born Shifnal, Shropshire [abt.1805]
Mary Cheadle aged 70 born Dawley Magna, Shropshire [1801] Looks like they lived next door to each other.
I would also like to try and find the marriage of their parents William and ? I have looked on family search but no luck.
It would also be great to find her grave too.
Thanks.

Thanks for clarifying Lesley. :)
Do you have the family members in any other censuses?
If no one here is able to help you, it would be worthwhile ordering the appropriate films to your local Latter Day Saints Family History Centre to search for these baptisms.
I'll see what I can find. :)
PS. Handworth Paish Church is St Mary's isn't it? There may not be a headstone or MI. This may not be the best approach, but have you tried contacting the church directly?

I have done a bit of hunting and found most of the Cheadles and Hydes in earlier censuses.
The most interesting is the 1841 at Priors Lane Shiffnal - not sure if you alrelady have this:
HO107/909/10/24
James Cheadle 70 farmer Y
Elizabeth 65 Y
Mary 40 Y
William 35 blacksmith Y
William Hyde 10 Y
So it looks like the parents of William, Mary and Ann might be James and Elizabeth. Does this fit in with the father's name on Ann's marriage certificate?
According to the Hugh Wallis site the Dawley and Shifnal baptisms don't start until 1813. They're not on Freereg yet either. However, by entering the parent's names James and Elizabeth into the IGI, there are a number of extracted baptisms which come up, including a William chr 13 Jun 1802 Stirchley and a Mary chr 27 Apr 1800 Stirchley. No Ann though ... I notice in the 1851 census that Mary gives her place of birth as Stirchley, though William gives his as Dawley ...
Someone may have copies of the appropriate PRs but you will probably need to post specifically requesting baptism lookups in Dawley and Shifnal. So it might be an idea to start a new post on the Shropshire board - provide a link to this thread to prevent duplication.

Thanks so much Ruskie for your efforts.
Unfortunately, the marriage record I got from family search records and is a transcription that does not mention any parents.
The record you found in the 1841 census seems to be the right people, especially as there is a William Hyde living with them. The only record I am going from is a handwritten tree from my mother in law that mentions Ann being the daughter of W. CHEADLE.
I feel like I'm going around in circles ???
I will put out a new note on this board re look ups and see what happens.

Hi Lesley, apologies, I did not take note of the date of the marriage between Ann and John - of course a marriage in 1829 (usually) won't give the name of the bride and groom's fathers. :-[
I am wondering if perhaps your mother-in-law may be wrong about William being the father of Ann? Do you know if this is research she has done herself or did she get the information from elsewhere? Of course there other Cheadle/Hyde families in the area and that can get confusing and mix-ups can occur ...
Yes, do ask the question about the birth/baptism of Ann on the Shropshire board. I hope you will get some help there. Please remember to provide a link to this thread.
Let me know if I can do any more lookups for you.

Hello Tiger88
I came across this post of yours, not having been around myself in research on the Hyde family for quite a while now, however I notice the mention of Anne CHEADLE marriage to John HYDE in Shifnal, and believe you are looking for details of the family?
If this is so I might be able to help, since John and Anne HYDE are my GGG Grand Parents, and have have details of the family from John's father, Thomas HYDE of Hartlebury(Where Baptised) to the present day.
Best Regards
Nick Hyde

Oh
One thing I forgot to mention I have a photograph of the family grave in Handsworth, should you require it.
It will be a few weeks since I am currently working in Germany.

Hi Nico
What a nice surprise to get your message.
It seems like I've been banging my head against a brick wall trying to find out information.
John and Anne Hyde were my ex-husband's 2 x grandparents and I do have some info on the family from there to the present day but I was trying to find the Cheadle side of the family. Also, all I have on John's parents is the following.
Thomas [1] Hyde b. c.1730-1740 [unable to verify] married Unknown!
Son Thomas [2] Hyde b. c. 1781 [unable to verify] Married Anne ?,[can't find marriage] they had six [6] children.
Son Joseph Hyde b. c. 1783 [not verified] Married Elizabeth Jones 30/3/1812, they had six [6] children also.
The interesting thing is that hubby's grandparents were both Hyde's, grandpa being Alfred W T Hyde (son of William Henry and Mary, grandson of William and Ann, G-grandson of Joseph). Grandma was Helena Louisa Hyde (daughter of John and Maria, g-daughter of John and Ann, 2 x g-daughter of Thomas). Descendants of both brothers.
It would be great if you more info perhaps you could write to my email address, or send a message. I'm not very good with communicating on here! ::)
It would be lovely to get a copy of the family grave in Handsworth, how long are you working in Germany?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Leslie
I believe the best thing to do, once I return home to Scotland, in a couple of weeks time I will sort things out and send details on to you. There is another distant relative who has been researching HYDE'S, if I find her contact details I shall sent them on.
There is other information you may like and that concerns ROBINSON's, I have relatives living in Australia and HYDE'S in New Zealand, much more to explain but perhaps as you suggested by email would be a better idea.
Home email Address: (*)
Might be a good idea if you can send me an acknowledgement to the above and I can reply, there is a good reason for this and I will explain later..
Best Regards

Hi Nico
I have received your message and will pm my email address, as yours was removed by the moderator [once I work out how to pm! ;D]
Look forward to hearing from you. It is nice to know other people are researching the same family as I haven't had any feedback from anyone so far.
Be interesting to see if your NZ Hyde's are the same as ours. Ours are also in NZ, plus we are now in Oz.
