Hi
On free BMD there is a marriage between Harriet Colton & Henry Morris, Doncaster 1878.
Is it possible to check on the 1871 census for Harriet to see where she comes from? If she is the right Harriet, she should be from Thorpe Hesley and around 17.
Thanks
D Orris

Hi Debbi 1965
It has been a while since I did any family research.
I had decided that this Henry is not the same Henry who was baptised by Henry Morris and Elizabeth Heaps and had decided that Charlotte Cuff was his mother but hadn't traced who his father was.
I was wondering if you had obtained a copy of his marriage certificate and if so did it state who his father was?

hi back to you,
im sorry i wish i did have a marriage certificate but i think i will have to get one as im having massive problems after many months of trying ot find the right henry morris as there were a few back then.i have 1861 census onwards which shows my henry as stepson of thomas cuff and son of charlotte.i have no proof yet of this to clarify henrys mother remarried..only thing i found that could be henrys father is a george morris, yet again no proof..this family is driving me crazy as..i have all henry and harrietts childrens birth dates, names etc..but its like the whole family was hardly known as there is almost nothing even on the children.ive only got bits and pieces.i even got harrietts whole line back of the sylvesters there was no problem there.
i have seen elizabeth heaps on the internet but again no proof..im in australia so sometimes its hard to be able to drop in somewhere for records..and ive been doing family history about 3 years now but as far as research im a newbie still and have much yet to learn on research..thing is i dont give up.if your henry morris married harriet colton then that would be a different henry to mine.
i have my grandmothers death certificate and on it states my great grandparents are henry morris and harriett sylvester of sheffield..would love ot find their graves, though i think not much hope there..debbi...:)

Hi Debbi
I would stress the importance about obtaining a marriage certificate for Henry and Harriet which would give you more information regarding Henrys father.
I have noted the following information regarding the marriage of Charlotte and Thomas Cuff, but don't want to send you off on a red herring if this is not the family of your Henry.
Thomas Cuff = Charlotte Elizabeth Morris 5th November 1860 at Harworth, Notts.
Thomas Cuff, 40 batchelor, labourer, Oldcoates, father John Cuff, labourer
Charlotte Elizabeth Morris, 37 widow, housekeeper, Oldcoates, father John Cummins, labourer.
In 1861 Henry is living with Thomas & Charlotte Cuff, in Carlton in lindrick with Elizabeth 12 and George 3.
I have noted that George died in 1868 as George Morris Cuff
In 1851 Charlotte Cumming 24, is living with George Morris, 71, widower in Worksop. He comes from Torworth, Notts. (Not far from Worksop) along with Elizabeth Ann born 1848
Should this prove to be the right Henry then there is a birth registered in Worksop in the first quarter of 1854 of a Henry Morris.
As I say, I hope this is of help and not a red herring.

gday back,
thankyou so much for your help,i will follow your lead and see where it gets me.i knew of charlotte cuff/thomas cuff and henry in the census but i didnt know george died as george morris cuff.very interesting..in all my searchings i have found quite a few henry morris"s but only one in worksop which was my great grandfather..sometimes families are so elusive until you get that one lead.
im sorry i couldnt help you on harriet colton, wish i could.
and thankyou very kindly for your help with mine,i appreciate your time and investigating for me.
thanks again debbi...:)
