Title: COMPLETED Albert William JACKSON - Adelaide
Post by: fairlane on Friday 11 March 11 22:56 GMT (UK)
I wonder if anyone can help with a very long shot at finding family who emigrated to Adelaide.

Robert Jackson was born in 1883 and Albert William in 1886 in Asby, near Appleby, Westmorland.

The only info I have is that either or both emigrated to Adelaide after 1911.

I have found that a Robert Jackson and Albert Jackson were on the OMRAH leaving London for Sydney on 23 June 1911 - any chance of finding information on them on arrival in Australia to confirm or eliminate?

There is a death for Albert William Jackson in Adelaide in 1964 - a lookup would be appreciated.

Sid,

Thanks so much for a very speedy response - the age at death gives a birth year of 1886 so I am cautiously optimistic that this could well be my husband's great uncle. I do know he was married as when my brother in law (sadly now deceased) was in the Navy in the early 1950's he visited them on a farm outside Adelaide. My husband remembers a photo of his brother with a koala bear accompanied by an elderly man and woman. I will look into getting a copy of the death certificate.

In appreciation, Fairlane

A couple of cheaper options to purchasing a certified death cert in South Australia.  I think the present cost is around AUD$40 for a certified certificate.  Transcriptions give the same information and the information can be emailed to you.

I went to bed last night having posted a query and woke up this morning to a full family.  ;D Brilliant work - many, many thanks to Cando,Merlin and especially Kris. Yes, father was George and the boys were farm workers back in Westmorland so I think this is definitely the right family.

Thanks for the pointer to getting transcriptions rather than full certificates.

My husband will be so pleased to find out what happened to the family as he remembered snippets from his granny (their much older sister) as a child in the late 1930's early 1940's.

Hello JulieSolly
I'm delighted to hear from you and can certainly help you going back in England with family info but I'm going on holiday for a week from tomorrow so it will have to wait until I get back! Lots to do before I leave so I will get in touch after next weekend.
My husband's grandmother, Elizabeth Jackson, was your greatgrandfather's eldest sister (born 1871).
Her brothers and sister were:
George 1873; John 1876; Mary (known as Poll) 1878; Thomas 1880 then Robert 1883 and Albert William 1886. They also had three half brothers from George's first marriage:
James 1855; Richard 1857 and Joseph 1859. Richard who also went to Australia died in 1939 in Blackwood, Adelaide as a retired Methodist Minister. Their father, George b.1829 was a farmer and Primitive Methodist preacher around the Appleby area in Westmorland.
Sadly my husband passed away last year but he would have been thrilled to hear about the next generation living in Australia.
Best wishes
Fairlane

Have a happy holiday and enjoy yourself.
