Title: Looking for a marriage - North Dakota
Post by: Nicky on Thursday 10 March 11 14:28 GMT (UK)
I am trying to trace the marriage of a George Polsom/Polson born 1874 in England and a Margaret Hayman born 1883 in England.

George went out to Canada in 1906 and then left his wife.

Margaret I have leaving the UK in 1920 and heads out to Canada.

They have a child together  and she is age 4 in 1929 when they take a trip back to the Uk.

I believe they both headed to North Dakota where George divorced his wife and he and Margaret marry. I assume between 1920 and when the child was born around 1925.

Any help on finding this marriage or any info on this couple would be very gratefully received.

Nicky

Hello Nicky,

Just a courtesy reply Nicky. Unfortunately there are no BMD records online that I am aware of for North Dakota.  If you could find out which County the marriage may have taken place, perhaps the nearest library or an RAOGK volunteer would be able to help.

Sandra

This website may contain some useful links regarding records available from North Dakota.

The North Dakota State University also has some records.  I ordered copies of the 1885 Census from them when I discovered some of my family in Fargo, North Dakota (Cass County).

I have searched the North Dakota census records for 1920 and 1930, but was unable to find anything.  Can you post the name of the child?  Do you know if they returned to the US?

Hello Nicky,

Looking at the Canadian Passenger List of 28 thSeptember 1929 on the Empress of Scotland it says George had been in Canada from 1906 - 1929 at 142 Slade M. Moose Jaw and Margaret 1920 - 1929 at 143 Stadacora Street. W. Moose Jaw. Sask which was the address they were returning home to. The daughter was also born in Moose Jaw. Canada.  Perhaps the marriage was in Canada  ???
