Some members of our family are buried in Rippleside Cemetery, Barking, in grave details R/S / LI / 70, and can view the cemetery on Google Earth. However, this does not let us identify which section they are buried in, and all attempts to obtain a map/plan of Rippleside have been unsuccessful. Can anyone advise where we may obtain a copy? The family name of people buried there is HUMPHRIES. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hi Nanny Jan,
Thank you for your prompt response - it is greatly appreciated.
We have not telephoned the office yet - but sent them an email some days ago to which they have not responded.
As we are in Sydney, Australia - will work out the time difference and give them a call.
Once again - many thanks.

Hi
If you have not yet made contact with the Rippleside Cemetery and established where this plot is, I may be able to assist you.
A number of my family are also buried there and I shall be visiting it soon.
However, to confirm the plot number is correct some forenames and dates would be helpful.

Hi Ray,
No, due to illness, we have not yet contacted the cemetery office.
Thank you for your offer of assistance - it is greatly appreicated.
The relatives buried there are the Grandparents, 1 Baby Cousin, 2 Uncles & 1 Aunt of my wife.
Grave details, gained from Rippleside online cemetery records, are as follows:
Grave Section: L1
Grave Number: 70
Interments:
William Henry Humphries - 11/07/1921 - Baby Cousin
Louisa Ada Humphries - 09/10/1975 - Grandmother
Samuel James Humphries - 08/02/1977 - Grandfather
Frank Robert Humphries - 20/02/2003 - Ashes - Uncle
also
Grave Section TT
Grave Number 131
Internments.
Leslie Frederick Harnden - 27/07/1990 - Uncle
Rose Harnden (HUMPHRIES) - 16/09/1992 - Aunt
As we have never visited, nor sighted these graves, we are particularly interested in obtaining a cemetery map/plan which would show us their location.
Cheers
Michael

Hello Ray & Peter,
Correction to my original post regarding the Humphies grave in Rippleside.
Location should read LI & not L1.
Apologies for the error.
Kind regards,
Michael

Thanks, Michael.

My pleasure.
Did not wish to send you on an extended wild goose chase.

Hi Peter
It would be useful to others if you would create a separate topic and put the map of Rippleside Cemetery in a topic on the Essex Resources board so anyone else who might need it in the future could find it.

hi, I can take a photo of the memorials and post them here if it helps.

Hi. Michael
Was able to visit Rippleside Cemetery today and plot fairly accurately where the graves you are interested in are on the map supplied by Peter J.
Also took a couple of photos, please send me a Personal Message and I will forward copies and a bit more info.

Ray,
May I ask if you managed to locate LI 70, please?
Many thanks,

Only with a lot of help from the staff at the Cemetery, they really did put themselves out to help!

One last question if I may please, Ray, then I'm done...
...was there a memorial on LI 70?
I ask because I spent over an hour searching for LI 70 about a week before your visit, and could not find any sign of it. Sadly, many of the graves in that section have been left to deteriorate and fall into disrepair, making it extremely difficult to map the layout of the section. TT 131 was a breeze, lying as it does, reasonably close to the path - I located that one immediately.
I live almost thirty miles away from Rippleside Cemetery, and given that I put in a fair amount of effort hunting for these plots and setting up access to the images I acquired, it would be nice to know the eventual outcome.
With thanks,
Peter.

Found it, but with difficulty and only after help from the staff. It did have a memorial; book laying flat on the surface.
Taking the top of the map being north, you need to go as far north as possible in section L, then go to the path that separates sections L & X.
The plot is next to the path and is the first marked plot [from the north] under a spreading fir tree.
I must admit I missed it first time probably due to debris from the tree.

Thanks for letting me know, Ray. Much appreciated.

Hello budgie450,
As you may have become aware from the posts lodged by both Peter & Ray, the graves in question have both been successfully located and photographed.
Thank you very much for your kind offer to assist. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I am trying to track down some relatives here as well and was interested in downloading the map that was attached, but keep getting an error that I am not allowed. Not sure why as I can't find anything in the FAQ. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat
Difficult for me to tell as a moderator because it opens for me when I click on the attachment, but it may be because this topic is now on the completed board for Essex or because as a new poster you have yet to gain all the privileges such as personal messaging on Rootschat you get after three posts.
If all else fails try printscreen and paste into a programme like Word or Publisher and crop.

Thanks - so if I have 3 posts, that might solve the issue? I noticed I was unable to post in the help forum as well, so wonder if that's related.
Thanks
Rob

Hi Rob
You made two now so only one to go. I don't know whether that is the correct answer. If you post again you can test out the hypothesis.

Ok, thanks for the help.

Nope. Still getting the following error message with no details:
"An Error Has Occurred!
It seems that you are not allowed to download or view attachments on this board. "
Would you be able to download it and email it to me as an alternative?
Thanks
Rob

Hi
I checked and printscreen brings it up just as clearly. Do you know how to do Printscreen? Are you using a PC or a Mac?

Rob, one way around this is to do a google search for Rippleside Cemetery Barking. There is a site that has a lay out of the cemetery on it but I can not place alink to it on here. The site that I found deals with Barking & Dagenham Council and when located you will need to look at the cemetery side of the site.

Hi
Barking and Dagenham's website gives the location of the cemetery but it doesn't give a map of the cemetery itself?

That's the one (the second one that is) Valda, try as I might I just could not get that to come up as a link.

Hi
It's not on the main cemetery page which was where I tried first. I then went to their cemetery database page which was where I found it from. However I can't repeat that find today which I think had all the cemtery maps on it for Barking and Dagenham.
However changing the web address title I can do it that way and find
Eastbrook End Cemetery
http://www.lbbd.co.uk/8-leisure-envir/cemetery/images/les-cem-plan-eastbrookend.gif
but not Chadwell Heath.
I'll put the two links into the Rootschat Essex Resources page since they are so hard to find. If anyone can find Chadwell Heath Cemetery layout I'll add it.

I contacted Rippleside Cemetery via email (I googled Rippleside Cemetery, which gave me the email address). I had a reply on the following working day, explaining that there is a large map on the grounds as you enter the cemetery which shows grave sections. The email went on to say: "If you let me know nearer the time of your planned visit I can arrange for one of the ground staff to show you to both graves, I’m afraid this would only be possible during the week and not weekends". A really helpful response.
I had an equally helpful response from West Ham Cemetery, and they did email me a map showing the different sections - if any one would like a copy, please send me a private message with your email address and I'll send the map as an attachment (I can't seem to attach it here).

Hi Don,
I emailed the cemetery office (Carol.De'ath@lbbd.gov.uk) to ask if there was a map available, and got this very helpful reply:
There is a large map on the grounds as you enter the cemetery which only shows grave sections. If you let me know nearer the time of your planned visit I can arrange for one of the ground staff to show you to both graves, I’m afraid this would only be possible during the week and not weekends.
so I would suggest you email the office.
Hope this helps,
