Hello All

Can someone help me please?

Ive found this probate will for my husband's great grandfather. When he died he had 3 children alive. But his will went to a John William Downes. Does anyone know why this may have happened? and how do i go about find out more info on this man....

Hi

John William Downes would be the executor of the will and not necessarily a benificiary. You would need to see the actual will for more details.

Entries in the National Probate Calendar state the name/s of person/s to whom probate is granted, that is, whoever is being given authority to carry out the wishes of the deceased as stated in the will.  As Andy says, they may be beneficiaries, but aren't necessarily so.  If they are not family members, they may be lawyers, or trusted family friends.
