Hi
I am just wondering does anyone know where I can find the marriage certificates for:
1841: Michael Cassidy and Margaret
1878: William Cassidy and Mary
1888: Robert Brown and Isabella
I am really just interested in finding out the maiden names of the brides. If anyone could help me, I would be absolutely delighted because without a credit card you are lost to the online ancestry websites... ::)
Thanks! ;D ;D

Wow! ;D
Thanks very much for the information, it is very much appreciated! :) :)
Can I ask where you got the information?
The information concerning the two Cassidy's sounds right, as in both were married in the Long Tower, which I had assumed. I know that Robert Brown married in the city of Derry and that his wife, as we had always assumed, was called Isabella Sterling and that they married sometime before 1917 but I can't find anything for an Isabella Sterling! :-[
I hope it is okay for me to ask but would you be able to find anything relating to a marriage of a Robert Brown to an Isabella in Derry City itself between what I realise is more likely to be 1890 and 1917?
If not, then thanks for the help, it is very much appreciated! ;D ;D

Hi,
Information comes from a subscription site which I belong to. I have looked for a Brown- Isabella Sterling/Bella/Stirling with no success. I also cannot find a Robert Brown marriage to an Isabella in Londonderry although there is one in Desertlyn in 1901 but, again, it is a C. of I. marriage.

Hi Kingskerswell
Thanks so much for all your help! I hope that you were not charged for searching for me!!
Thanks for the help, but I managed to get into contact with grandmother at 10 and she told me that Robert and Isabella married in Scotland! So I shall try and gather some information in that regard. But thank you very, very much! :) :)

Hi :)
I was just wondering, do the marriage certificates contain details in relation to occupations and parents names?

Just putting the link to the Scottish post where Eva has posted details on the marriage of Robert Brown and Isabella Stirling that she has found :)

See here for details on Irish civil marriage certificates (the 1841 marriage will be a church record since civil registration of Catholic marriages only started in 1864).

Hi,
Denis Cassidy married Elizabeth Webb on 27 May 1911 in Londonderry R.C. Church. The lady seems to have been married before and her maiden name may have been PAGE.

Hi Cassidys17
I just noticed you wanted the occupation's,the Cassidy's were all cattle dealers and William Cassidy as far as i know had a farm, and as the family story says the farm was were the pennyburn school is know,i think the bishop bought the land from the family at some point. They also had a butchers shop, not 100% certain but i think Margaret Doherty was from the Doherty families who were well known butchers in derry,i don't have any proof of this though.Mary Carr came from Faned Head in Donegal and could speak and read and write in Irish.I have a photo of Wiliam and Mary's headstone, they are buried in the city cemetery Derry,William died in 1928 aged 70 and Mary died in 1920.Wiliam's son's were all cattle dealer's as well. Are you decended from Denis Cassidy.?.

If you can try and get a dvd of the Irish version of Who Do you think You are? Series 1. This featured Dana and she was related to Isabella sterling & Robert Brown they were her GT Gt Grandparents, There is a fair bit of information about them and where they married in Glasgow.
This was shown on RTE 1 about 2 years ago. Try www.rte.ie/who do you think you are.

A brief summary of the programme that you mention Summerhill www.rte.ie/tv/whodoyouthinkyouare/s1/outline_dana.html

Hello I am new to the Chat Forum
I saw a posting from Argyle25Cassidy that appeared under the heading Marriage Certificates Cassidy etc
I believe that Michael Cassidy and Margaret Doherty Cassidy are mt Great Great Grandparents by way of their son Edward Cassidy born circa 1850/1852
Michael Cassidy seems to have originated from Liafin or Meenalooban outside Buncrana in Donegal. but his parents were definitely as above as Michael Cassidy left a will when he died in 1862
How do i get in touch with Argyle25Cassidy ??
Any help would be appreciated !!

Hi,
I've commented on one of your other threads. If my thinking is correct I think you may be my father's cousin as John and Lizzie where also his grandparents. We are interested in trying to research our family tree and if I'm correct would it be possible to share your findings as it would be an amazing diving board to start our journey :D
