Has anyone found a William Conquest on their travels? he is proving very elusive! All I know so far is -
born abt1846 (birthplace not known) father James Conquest
marr 19 Mar 1868 Brighton 2nd husband of Ann Elizabeth Taylor
then the trail goes cold... but as Ann marries again in 1875 has William died ? divorce ?
No luck with finding his family with James as his father, would like to find him in the census returns.
Any help would be great! ;D

hi redwinelindy
Are you sure your William Conquest was really born abt 1846?
Reason I'm asking is because I found Ann Elizabeth Bridger (presumably nee Taylor) (who married William Conquest in 1868 in Brighton) in 1871.
She is under the name Ann E Conquest, marked as married, but no husband listed with her. She is shown as born about 1826 in Brighton. Her son James Conquest is with her who was baptised in Brighton on 12 Jul 1868 (as son of Wm & Ann E).
She has Bridge[r] children with her, presumably they would be her children from the first marriage.
William would have been 20 years younger - a very large gap and I've never seen such a difference in ages when it comes to the female being the elder.
Also, do you happen to know William's occupation ? - it would be stated in the marriage certificate if you have seen a copy.

p.s. just had a chuckle when looking at the son James through the censuses and spotting his son named; Norman Conquest :)

Hi One Big Family
Yes i do have the marr cert and wondered about the age gap myself! William's occ was Groom
Yes Norman Conquest is son of James - unfortunately he was killed in WW1
Getting back to William's age - Ive tried every combination I can think of to find his family - his age on marr cert is 22yrs

I would be tempted to think about whether William was the William Conquest born in Bucks who was a private soldier in 1871. I know that one is marked as unmarried but I have seen entries before for married soldiers who describe themselves as single. (In 1871 listed as Conguest born in Great Linford, Buckinghamshire, England).

Thanks for that, certainly worth checking! :)
