Title: Lambourn Workhouse
Post by: Ezyka on Thursday 03 March 11 22:43 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know anything about the Lambourn workhouse?  One of my ancestors died there in 1840 and I wondered where it was in the village or if there are any pictures of it?

Loads of pictures here

Lambourne WH was also an infirmary for quite a large catchment.

Can't see any pictures of Lambourne there?

Lambourne workhouse was the old poorhouse, used along with another in Hungerford by the Hungerford Union from 1834 until they were replaced in 1847 by the new workhouse in Hungerford.  See www.workhouses.org.uk

I had a read of the info on the Hungerford workhouse and it does mention the Lambourn one but it doesn't really say much about it.  I might try asking Berkshire Record Office to see if they have any information on it  ;D

Thanks everyone
