There was and is a street ---, Oswald Street. It is where Cheetham Hill Rd changes to become Corporation St at the point where Miller St branches off. The area was known as Scotland and sometimes Gibraltar. The River Irk can be seen underground here. Verdon St is close by.
There is a big hotel on the corner which was formerly Ashton House, a hostel for girls. Sorry can`t remember the name  of it. A big red building.
The district was Manchester 4.It is close to Angel Meadow but I don`t think it was Collyhurst.Fernie St was probably in the  Red Bank area., above the street there was a huge "turntable" where Railway engines could turn round .
Hope this is helpful to you.               Viktoria.

Hi lyndy,

Maps site:

http://www.artus-familyhistory.com/Manchester%201930/Main%20Map.html

Click onto Manchester 1930 map and click onto 2c, as the map appears scroll down one section and you will see Oswald St, just above where it says Miller St.

Fernie St is in the same area, above to the left, running parallel where it say in large black letters Cheetham.

I hope you mean Oswald, as I cannot find a Owald on any maps.

Thanks Cancan :)
