My Fuji A205S camera uses xD memory cards and as mine is only a piffling 16Mbs I`d really like to upgrade it.
Now according to the manufacturer`s website my camera uses any of Fuji`s
(of course! ) xD card types.
However, would it be Ok to use a (cheaper) Olympus XD card or must it be a Fuji?

Hi
Shouldn't be any real problem.
Remember the faster the card the quicker the camera will be able to take the next shot, so ..........
What I would do is take your camera to a camera shop
(your choice of reputable or not) :)
tell them what you want
put it in the camera and try it
(you may have to pay for it first)
if it doesn't work, say "not fit for purpose" (and get your money back.)
Regards

I found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XD-Picture_Card
"Olympus-branded xD cards are the only ones that support Olympus cameras' panoramic function. Although they store data identically to other manufacturers' cards, Olympus intentionally disables this feature in the hopes that buyers will purchase their cards (a form of vendor lock-in)."
So, it would seem there may be differences between the brands.
If I were buying, unless I knew someone who had already tried alternating, I'd probably stick to the manufacturer's suggestion.
Just my opinion.

My tame camera expert says it's ok to use the Olympus cards. They support extra functions in Olympus cameras, but are fine for other cameras too.
-
Hi
Function/feature of the camera not the card.

Acording to this site Olympus is compatible with Fuji digital cameras:
http://www.lowpricememory.co.uk/olympus-2gb-xd-picture-card-type-m-c-32-p-537
I've got a Fuji digital camera and I use a SanDisk memory card.
-
Any xD card will do. Xd is a standard format but the different companies try to persuade you to buy theirs. Olympus have now discontinued the panoramic function.
-
I'd double check the max size of card your camera will support. Should be in the manual somewhere. I may be wrong ( and no doubt I'll be corrected here if I am! ) but I believe some older Fuji's won't take the larger xD cards that have subsequently become available.

I had a Fuji Finepix which had an Olympus xD memory card in it and it worked fine. I would still have it, but it got stolen so I now have another Fuji Finepix with an sd card.
I think I paid around £15 from a seller on Amazon for the xD one - it wouldn't have been any more than that, I'm too grippy! I can't remember the size, but probably either 1gb or 2gb. So in a nutshell, my camera worked quite the thing with the Olympus card in it.

Found the Fuji compatibility table http://www.fujifilm.com/support/digital_cameras/compatibility/card/a/.

Many thanks to evryone who replied.
The card slot in my camera only takes the very smallest xD card (2 x 2.5cms) (memory up to and including 2GB.)
I`d intended to buy a 1GB card from Amazon but noticed that the only seller flogging Fuji sometimes sent out Olympus cards at Fuji prices instead .
Being a pensioner I hoped to send for the cheaper Olympus card myself from another seller. I thought someone might know if it was OK for my S205S camera first before committing my money.

I knew from experience just how helpful Rootschatters are.
I now know how really kind too.
Thankyou so much, John.

Jay,
the card is in the post, unfortunately the note that was meant to go with it is still on my desk!! The note just explained that you will need to format the card in your camera to ensure that it registers the images properly. Formatting is very simple - provided you can find the command as it is often buried in the depths of the menu system.
Hope you get some good images.

Hi John,
Thanks for the reminder re needing to format the card . That`s something new to me , so I`ll Google it first.
With 1Gb of memory I`ll certainly have lots more opportunity for getting good images, thanks to your generosity.

I posted the card on the 8th. Did it arrive?

You're a generous person, John_w, for sending that card. Should anyone else want one cheap, they can be found for reasonable prices at www.webuy.com - I picked up a 512mb card for £5, which I thought was good.
It's a Kodak brand, but has no problems with my Fujifilm camera.
-
John,
Due to circumstances, I haven`t been on the board so I`ve only just seen your post.
The card, neatly packaged, arrived safely on the 11 th March.
I had no problems formatting it.
Many thanks again John.
