Hello - I am researching my great-great-grandfather - James Pollrd who was, at the time of his death in 1879, a Police Sergeant at the Whitworth Police Station. At the time of his death, he was actually residing at the police station. He was 43 years old when he died and I am trying to find out whether he died in connection to his occupation. James was born in 1836 in Burnley, Lancashire and died on the 18th July 1879. I would appreciate any information anyone can share. Much thanks.

His name doesn't seem to be on the Police Roll of Honour http://www.policememorial.org.uk/Forces/ForcesList.htm - I had a quick look at Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

Thanks for your help everyone - I am still wondering at the cause of death - perhaps I will need to order a death certificate.
James' family (his wife Hannah Maria Walton and sons Harry and Charles Pollards) lived in Burnley which explains the place of burial. I'll keep searching for more information about his death.
Much thanks - Michelle

Lancashire Record Office website has a PoliceOfficers database. There are two James Pollard on it one Lancashire Constabulary and the other Blackburn Constabulary. The name brings up a form which you can fill in and they will send back to you what records they hold.

Thank for you help Migky and Gibel. I have used to website for Lancashire Constabulary to request information about James' service with the Lancashire Constabulary - so this has been a terrific lead. :)
It is wonderful what is possible from the other side of the world.
Much thanks
