Hello - I am researching my great-great-grandfather James Pollard who was, at the time of his death in 1979 a Police Sergeant at Whitworth Police Station. At the time of his death, he was residing at the Police Station. He was 43 when he died and I am trying to establish whether he died in connection to his occupation. James was born in 1936 in Burnley Lancashire and died on 18th July 1879. Would really appreciate any information anyone can share. Thank you.

I'm not sure that there is a Whitworth in Wiltshire... ??? I see that there is a Whitworth in Lancs and a James Pollard 1879 death in the registration district that Whitworth Lancashire comes under which seems to jive with details you have given in your post. Maybe this should go onto the Lancashire board?
Apologies if I'm confused (it wouldn't be the first time) ;D ;D

Hi Michelle.
There is a Police roll of Honour web site that lists all officers who died as a result of injury/accidents while on duty. Have had a look for your ancestor for both Wiltshire and Lancashire but could not find him, www.policememorial.org.uk/ while on the web site there is a facility to e-mail them and I am sure they will help you.

Thanks West - have had a look at the site you provided and have had no luck finding James Pollard either.
I think a death certificate is looking like the next step.
