Title: Frongoch Internment Camp.
Post by: Jytefas on Monday 28 February 11 14:43 GMT (UK)
Hi Everyone,

Many people who were involved in the ‘1916 Rising’ were interned in the Frongoch internment camp in Wales. Wondering if there is  a list of prisoners available online that i can access?

Kindest

John G.

Hi Barry,
thank you for taking the time to answer, Grt Uncle Martin, was up at Stephens Green, he went from
Richmond Barracks, to Knutsford detention barracks, and then to Frongoch, I wrote to Cathal Brugha
Barracks, and they sent me 3 witness statements, but unfortunately he isn't mentioned in them, and they have said he never applied for a pension, so I don't know anything else about him,
Thanks
Sue

Hi Barry,
He lived at 12, Coombe, the strange thing about him, is that his brother, my Grandad, John Shannon,
was in the British Army, in the Fourth Hussars in 1916, he was fighting in the Middle East, probably
at the same time,

Thanks Barry,
I did, I'd love to know exactly where they worked, as it says they were Bakers, but that is for another day, I am  back as far as their parents marriage, I have the cert for 1892, I am doing my Maternal side also, and every time I get a lead from either side I run with it, but so far The Shannons seem to be in the lead,
thanks again,
Sue

Hi all
Jytefas, my grand dad was interned in Frongoch as well (first knutsford)

my grandfather Michael Whelan was attached to the following (Marrowbone lane)
4th Dublin City Battalion I.V.
Commandant E. Céannt
Vice-Commandant, C Brugha
Muster Point, Emerald Square, Dolphin’s Barn
Muster, 100.

Also I have have just come across this while googling it is the
Sinn Fein Rebellion Handbook, Easter 1916
(its seems to be a list of prisoners transferred from Richmond barracks to knutsford)
my granddad is listed as M Whelan

Hi Jytefas

Just noticed this thread.  There is a pretty comprehensive-looking list of internees in the book "Frongogh: University of Revolution" by Sean O'Mahony, published in 1987.  I don't know if the list is available online, however.

According to my grandmother her father Michael o'Mahoney from Bantry was a prisoner in Frongoch. Family legend is that his brother - Patraick was involved in the Dripsey Ambush and was executed in Cork jail. Any help in getting more info on Michael would be gratefully appreciated
